FISH AND GAME NAMES COHO RECOVERY TEAM

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) announced today the composition of the Coho Recovery Team that will aid DFG in the development of a recovery strategy for coho salmon north of San Francisco.
The Recovery Team is composed of people who represent those who may be affected by the recovery strategy, including American Indian tribes, representatives of landowners and local governments, state and federal agencies, environmental groups, and persons with scientific expertise. DFG will lead the team which will be managed by a neutral facilitator. "We believe the team members will represent the affected interests well," said DFG Director Robert C. Hight. "Each person brings knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to this team. We appreciate the time and commitment each person has pledged to this important endeavor."

On Aug. 30, the Fish and Game Commission found that coho salmon warranted listing as an endangered species from San Francisco to Punta Gorda and as a threatened species from Punta Gorda to the California-Oregon border, under the California Endangered Species Act. The Fish and Game Commission directed DFG to prepare a recovery strategy for coho salmon, and the Recovery Team will meet over the next 10 months to assist the Department in that effort.
