Let's see, $10 just to enter the drawing with no guarantee that you will be picked for ANY of the 5 hunts? How many people do they expect to enter? 1000? That's getting $10K for doing NOTHING. With the potential for getting that much for EACH drawing!!! And, of course, you can enter for more than 1 hunt if you just pay an additional $10 for each entry. Non refundable of course.

If you get picked in the drawing, do you still need to pay for the access permit? Or is the drawing for a hunt with an included access permit? Not clear to me even after reading the article twice. If you have to pay, then why isn't the $10 entry fee used as part of the access permit cost? And if you don't have to buy the access permit, then aren't the "losers" of the drawings actually paying for the "winner's" access permit? And what about the "hunting friend" who can come along with each winner. Do they have to buy an access permit too?

In either case, Tejon isn't giving the hunts away. Somebody is paying for them. Which is fine except that it's not clear who is paying and there's a possibility that the costs may be paid by both the "losing" contestants AND the "winners." And if that's the case, then the price per 2-day hunt is astronomical.

Assuming 1000 applicants for each drawing X $10 = $10,000. X 5 hunts = $50,000. + possibly $5000 ($1000 X 5 chosen hunters for access permit costs) X 2 (for the partner's pass) = $60,000. $50,000 to $60,000 for a MAXIMUM OF TEN PEOPLE to hunt the ranch.

That's $5000 or $6000 PER PERSON,

For HOGS?????

Hmmmm. Let me get back to you on that one...

Just spoke to DFG she said they are just cooperating with DFG any way they can since the "incident" They have new management.

But it could be a conspiracy, I suppose...they could be hiding evil, weird, nuclear, pigs that glow...

Yea I called her after my post. Its $10 only if you get picked all you have to pay is $18 for the tejon ranch liabilty insurance nothing else. So if you are lucky to get drawn it is only $46 for you and your hunting buddy if you choose to take one if you go by yourself its only $28 total. I think its worth a try.

Now that Tejon cleaned-up their act, I will try for it. I think the Share Program is the best way to go.

I seem to remember the response was a lot more positive last year when the poll was up about how much we would be willing to pay for a chance at some decent access for pig hunting...

Well, some guys got spoiled. They were hunting a private ranch where the Mountain Lions had been exterminated.

I signed up for all 5. Can somebody elaborate on the mountainlion thing or provide a link. I'm in the dark here.

BTW I was party to one of the late season snow goose hunts last year through the SHARE program and it was a huge success.

Thanks
Steve

you can never exterminate all the mountain lion but the report said that tejon ranch had a permit to kill nuisance mountain lion but they were killing every mountain lion they saw and told the hunters to shoot on site. So even though they had a permit it was illegal cause they could only kill 1 mountain lion with each permit I think and a ranch hand had to kill and report it but they never got reported.

The report says, eleven mountain lions killed, so it will be a while before they populate the place.

I understand that map but you have to remember mountain lions arent cute or cudily. They are killing machines and hide better than anyone thinks and if they were killing them consistently like they did it means the population is very healthy. Think about it. How often do you see a mountain lion hunting? If they killed 11 and they are still seeing them all the time that means the population is a lot bigger than we know.

Ahh, this was not at all the way the story made it out to be. Totally different since the article said that the $10 was to enter each drawing and is non refundable.

For $28 it's a fantastic deal for 10 lucky guys. For the unlucky ones who paid their $10 but didn't get picked, well I'm sure they will sleep happy knowing that they helped to pay the access fee for the winners.

Jesse organized the JHO hunts there, so I think we should all add him as Buddy. That way he will have a 100% chance of winning.

Thank the idiots who voted for the law. I know my father didnt. I giggle every time some one is eaten. When you go outside you become part of the food chain.

Has anyone actually applied for this drawing? I plan to enter Jesse as a partner, and want to know if his name must be on all the drawings when entered? Can a partner be entered after winning the drawing? Also, can I just mail the winning permit to Jesse?
