When I first got mine( 25yeas ago) I shot the fist buck with a 86 gr bullet . Major mistake! Blood shot from front of chest to tail on right side I hit him just to the right side of his chest, he was faceing me about 100yds . I swithed to 117 or 120 grains from then on no problems. I would recomend 120 gr Nosler partison for Mule deer.good luck .....duc
When I had mine I shot 117 gr Horndaddys and 115 Partitions, but if that 110 Accubond had been available I would have given it a shot. If you can get it to shoot well, fire away.
I think your dead on with the 110gr Accubonds. As long as they group well with your gun I would say use those. Seem to have the best ballistics. I like the 115gr Nosler Partition also. I've never had one come apart on 50yd and under shots....say @ 3000+ fps. The front may smear off but the partition and shank ALWAYS stayed intact. WR
I've had good luck with Barnes X-bullets... They seem to shoot well, and I've had awesome performance on deer, pigs, bear, antelope, coyotes, etc. I would NOT shoot Remington Core-Lokts in that gun... I've had nothing but horrible performance from those bullets... I shot the factory Remington loads for a few years... every deer I shot, the bullet exploded on impact (120 grain). The deer always died, but with quite a bit of meat loss...
Hey 84 I will never shoot remington bulets ever again! I have had missfires in 308 300 win mag and 25-06 over a period of 7 years . Anyone else had this problem? My cousin has used them fo 30 years and loves them.Maybe its just my luck.
Never had any misfires... just crappy bullet performance... many of my friends like the core lokts in 270, 30 cal, 7mm, etc. - it might have something to do with the 25 shooting a lighter weight bullet at a fast speed, causing them to blow up... while the heavier bullets (larger calibers) aren't going quite as fast... I don't know... What I do know is that I won't shoot them ever again for big game...
Thanks everyone! I have the 110 Accubonds, 115 Partitions, 117 Hornadys, and 100 gr. TSXs. Powder I am looking at is RL22, IMR 4350, and H4831. Have to see what shoots good. I think the BTs are too frangible for my style of shooting.
I say and premium bullet 100gr+ that groups great in your gun will be the ticket. You may also want to look at Federals new Fusion rounds. They make a 120gr 25/06 that shoots 2980 fps at the muzzle. Cheaper bullet and seems to be making fans, I have yet to try them buy I think I will this year. WR
