This'll be a decent drive for me and I'd like to take my car rather than my Jeep. Will I be able to drive the car and get to a trail head for walking in?[/b]
Unless things have changed, last time I hunted there (three years), all the dirt roads were pretty well maintained, and the main roads are paved, I don't think you'll have a problem bringing a car.

Thanks Feathers'

That'll save some money on gas too.... What route do you take to go up there? I'm in Lake Forest and this will be my first time driving up there. Do you take the 101?

Just got off the phone with Karin (very nice) who runs the resort. There are only 7 cabins, and so far 50 people have responded. The problem is we are going to have to share rooms if we want to stay there.
Problem being, according to Karin, most people who are bringing spouse or girlfriend don't want to share a room. Each cabin has two rooms with doors, and one fold out in the living room. There is space for R.V's, and tents, but the temps at night are 22 degrees.
Since this is free, we need to make this as easy on poor Karin as possible, or make other arraigments on your own.

101 is most scenic, 5 frwy with Paso Robles cut off is fastest if I remember correctly.

FHL has many miles of improved dirt roads. You may have good access to a lot of the areas only if it doesn't rain. Plan to drive your jeep with mud tires if it rains before that weekend. Many times draggin can be short if you can drive your jeep to nearest road from your down pig.

I wouldn't bring a car some areas are accessible meaning the lower lying areas and walk in areas but if you go to the higher mountain regions cars may have a problem. If it rains watch out because i have seen some the most rigged up 4x4s get burried at Liggett.

Just a heads up for those of you driving from afar. The base has been closed the last two weeks due to heavy military training. You might want to have a back up plan as you will not know if the base in open until Thursday night. Anyway, thought this might help some of you who don't live around the corner from the base.

FHL has some nasty mud and roads when it rains. There's only a couple areas that have graveled roads to use if it rains. I sunk my truck up there last trip. A winch, shovel and long yank strap are HIGHLY recommended. $175 to get yanked out and it may take awhile since the local tow boys like to hog hunt too. The guy I first called was retreiving 2 hogs when ho got stuck himself.

I called last night at about 7PM and left a message with my housephone and my cellphone numbers and also mentioned that this is regarding the 1st Annual JHO FHL hog, waterfowl and varmints hunt. I received a return call in my cellphone from Karin this morning at about 8AM and she informed me that I and my hunting partner would be accomodated and we would be sharing a cabin with 2 other people. I said that is perfectly OK with me and she put us in for this excellent free accomodations. HOORAH!!! Jessie and Hesperia Resorts I thank you all. Excelllent deal and program. Jessie, you are not only an electronics genius, but you are also a talented businessman. I can only see JHO getting to be the biggest player in the hunting world......BAR NONE. Our reservations are for Dec.29(Friday), 30(Sat.) and 31(Sun.). If we have not caught anything yet by noon on Saturday we will join the BBQ at Bryson Hesperia Resort. Another HOORAH!!!!!!
Congratulations and Thanks a Lot and God Bless, always.

I'm ready for the New Year's weekend! Great offer by Jesse's and Bryson, thank you.

I took spoke to Karin early today, and I'm bringing the whole family including my 8 month old baby girl. My wife and I took the DFG pig clinic there earlier in the year, but have not been on a pig hunt yet. I spent most of my time in the Greenhorns going after a buck, but was left with tag soup. I'm also bringing my 3 year old GSP, Jaeger, who we hunt upland birds with (our best success hunting). Looking forward to meeting you guys.

If you have not hunted FHL, JHO has put together a great information page on FHL, which includes maps, lodging, and much more.JHO

Interesting read.
The DFG put together a list of recomended bullet weights by caliber for pigs up to 90 lbs, and over 90 lbs, for handgun, rifle, muzzleloading rifle, and shotgun.

Hello Fellow Hunters....
As far as loging goes you can still bring your RV here but you will have to be self contained because we have no hook ups. I just got off the phone with San Antonio Lake Resort and they do have 15 units available that sleep 6-12. Also its a buy one get one free deal. For the unit that sleeps six friday night cost 130 and saturday night is free and sunday night cost 110! This is there link so feel free to check them out! http://www.lakesanantonioresort.com/

Also right now for the wives/girlfriends i am trying to get some ideas going:
Limo wine tasting? (everyone will have to pitch in I just called and for 8 people it would be 60.00 a person)
So if you know of any wineries that you would want to go to just let me know and i can put 3 or 4 on the list!

Also there is great shopping in Montery!

If you have any other questions please feel free to email me info@brysonresort.com i will be happy to answer any questions that i can. Thank you

I checked FHL and they say the Haciends is closed for re[pair or something, is the lodging part of the Hacienda or under a different name. Don't mind payiong for a night or two, are there any pother hotels, motels closer thatn KIng City to FHL. Thanks and I hope to be there New Year's weekend
