Hey Y'all Bux-N-Dux here............

I really want to get to know FHL and get into pig hunting this year. Can someone give me some specs on the President's Day Hunt? I would really love to join you all and meet some other hunters up there. I live about 3 hours away from FHL. Plus I am a journeyman butcher by trade and would be more than happy to help in butchering. If there is anyone who would want to show a hunter who is very experienced, safe and ethical but new to FHL and pig hunting the ropes I would be really grateful.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Hey Bux - I went to FHL for my first time Prez weekend 2007 and had a blast. Once you get your permit you just show up and sign in. Try and get there Friday and check in before 3PM. If you get there later you have to wait in line when they open to check in and that can take some time. Last time I was there and had to wait in line Sat morning it took almost 2 hours and the sun was up before I made it into the field.

I went solo my first time and talked to people in the camp groud. SOme are friendly some not so much but if you are limited to public land as I, get to know FHL. I have been there 6-7 time since last Prez weekend and I have yet to take a hog but have seen many hanging in the meat locker. Go check it out.

Thanks alot ksberry.........

I'm putting in for the time off of work tomorrow. If I get the time I will definitely be there before 3 on Friday. I am limited to public land and have been wanting to get to know FHL for a couple of years now and hope to use the Prez day hunt to do so and to meet a few folks from JHO. Now that I have found Barnes ammo for my .41 mag as well I'm even more excited. A new radiator in my Jeep and it's a done deal!!!! Thanks alot all and best of luck.............................

I plan on hitting FHL as well for the weekend of the 19th-20th for some pig hunting, would love to join up with someone who has been there more than I (i am a FHL rookie) anyway i will be in my 4X4 VW Vanagon camper, dont be a stranger and come say hi.

UNFORTUNATELY I have not gotten my new pig stick for TA 29 (Remington 11-87 Sprotsman Deer fully rifled 12 gauge)

looking forward to hitting it, and with this rain it WONT be dry for sure.

420-

I will surely help you and anyone else butcher their pig. Amazing how much more useable meat you can get when you know a little about the animals anatomy. I have been given the time off work and will be there Friday early. I can't seem to find any information on the Army FHL website, doesn't seem to be working very well. I am just going to call the check-in station. Sounds to be alot of fun and I am looking forward to it. One last question for the pig veterans..........30-06 or .243???

Thanks in advance,

As usual shot placement is key, but with these critters I vote for the 30.06 for sure. Good luck.

Wild1,
I'm thinking of camping in the campground. Don't know if I'm going to be around on Monday. How about you?

Fresh of the press, this is the training areas open for this weekend.

Training Areas open for hunting on January 19th thru 21st 2008 are: 13E, 25, and 29. (and 13E and 29 are primitive weapons only)

slim pickings for the 3 day weekend and remember its on a first come first serve basis.
