You guys are going to have a blast at FHL this weekend. I am jealous that I can't make it. It really is a great place to hunt and sit around the fire, drink beers, and tell war stories. Have fun and save some ham for me...when ever I get out there again.
Sorry again you can't make it. Yes the weather is looking good!! I suppose I'll drive down regardless and if there is some problem I'll just go camp a couple of days in the Los Padres or something. My dad is coming with me and we haven't been on a hunting/camping trip together in almost 20 years. I'll be hunting with his Remington 760 Gamemaster 30.06......a gun that in his hands has dropped more deer than I'll probably ever see, much less shoot. Hoping to add a nice hog to that gun's body count.
Jesse,
The post for the weekend Hunt will be posted tomorrow evening or the evening before the weekend of its hunt. Most times it will be similar to the previous weekend. And yes to your question 13east is what use to be 30. http://www.liggett.army.mil/sites/fishhunt/
we where there this last weekend 1 hog taken in area 6 the weather was great and the new girl carol is very nice and helpfull there were a lot of trees down but we pulled most off the trails in area 9 and 1 we seen 1 hog in area 1 but couldnt get a shot off good luck to all hopefully they will open more tas this weekend
Yeah, just heard the recording that 29 is the only area open. Unless they decide to open a bunch of area's tomorrow last minute then I will not be at FHL. But I dont' think they'll open anymore. Talking to a friend they had some more troops show up mid week. So it's doubtful that more will open.
If this is true then I can't go....I have a rifle and 29 is primitive only. So as of tomorrow morning if 29 is the only area open, I'm out. And out the 25 dollar application fee. Damn.
Well thats good news. thanks CaliJeep......so anyone with that plan B? I think I might go up to Indian Valley res and look around, do some scouting for deer season. All this talk about Walker Ridge makes me want to visit that area....about the same distance as FHL only north. Now what am I going to do with 20 pounds of pork ribs?????
Well guys my dad and I made the call to go into Indian Valley area. My cousin told me of some areas he's gotten pigs up there and some nice areas to camp in. My pops and I haven't been hunting together in nearly 20 years and we'd like to take advantage of this time we have. So we'll have to put a rain check on FHL, but definitely gonna hit it in the near future. Thanks to all who helped me with info and what not, especially KSberry and Jesse. I hope to meet y'all soon......and I'll get plenty more ribs for next time....I'm a butcher so no worries there guys. Best of luck to all who head to FHL and I'll let you know what my dad and I see up where we go. If anyone else from this area wants to meet us up near the reservoir as a plan B, send me an email and we will see what we can get into up there.
I am really surprised that they only opend one TA for a 3 day weekend but I guess if you really think about it we should be greatful that they allow hunting on the base.
Bux - Let me know how IVR turns out. The weather should be nice this weekend. It was cool yesterday morning in the low 40's but it heated up towards 10AM.
Just don't burn the commode, Jesse! You may need that.
Hope to hear some good stories tomorrow evening. A little frost ought to get things moving and keep 'em going after sunrise. Time for someone to kill a certain "ghost pig"... that's what I'm thinking!
