Sssshhhh, be very very kwuiet, we're hunting hogs. I'm back at the truck after tailing some hogs up a canyon. Found where they crossed a meadow, you could see their paths in the frost but I never caught up to them. Canyon stunk like a barnyard so they are using this area a bit. Evlu is across the river watching a spot where a big black hog has been seen alot. We're both in area 25.
Dayum cold this morning, you couldn't sit long. 25F at daybreak. Nice and crisp. Beautiful sunrise and the quail are calling up a storm. Time to break out the bobcat call and decoy and see if I can get a kitty to come take a look.
No pig shot at yet. There was a shot right at shooting time this morning over by the reservour it sounded in 25. Lots of road hunters as usual and the campground is pretty full for the word not getting out about the open areas.
More later, gotta git while the sun is still low. It got pretty warm yesterday, maybe 67. Roads are so so, some are good but there is a lot of standing water in the low spots. Ponds and ressies are full and creeks are running good.
C'mon Jesse, we need an update, we all know Deedy has internet service. Hope you had a good day, 25 is one of my favorite TAs, you probably saw tons of Elk.
Give Deedy my best and tell John I apologize for not getting him up North for a duck hunt.
No joy today. I missed Evlu this morning and he left me a message that he got a shot this morning where I put him last night at a pig but missed. That must have been the shot I heard. Lots of fresh sign in 25, just a matter of running into the hogs. With all the road hunters driving laps all over it may have the hogs holding tight until dark.
No bobcats yet, I tried calling for a couple hours but no cats. Found a dead redtail hawk while scouting, not sure what killed it. Wings were spread out like it was landing. Finally saw some turkey birds and they were busy sorting out the pecking order.
Gonna try 25 one more morning and see what happens. I haven't been by the check in window to see if anyone else has any hogs yet. I'm sure there has with all the folks here now. There are 2 new guys running the window now.
If you do come to FHL watch your speed and obey all the hunt rules. The fort cops are on the warpath and every time I see one they are writing someone up. Watch the parking along Jolon Rd., you have to use the designated parking spots or you get tagged.
Day #3 ... I see a lot of fog from my window this morning- I hope this no visibility low lying stuff doesn't get Jesse this morning. He's on them hogs pretty good- he's got a great plan of attack. Hi Litch! Good to hear from you and everybody else too! We'll keep you posted!
Deedy
on Sunday morning. Guess that I got too excited when I saw that big porker
. Heard that a big Shiney Black one got missed in 25. Talked to the new gal when I left. She said that by noon, 4 of us had missed shots at pigs in 25 so far. Guess I'm not the only one with STUPID on the forehead, just that mine's spelled wrong.
Sure was cold Sunday.
didn't want to get out of the car.
Will post a little later about the weekend.
Going back next Sat. just for the day.

Foggy as heck this morning, can't see crapola. I took the rifle for a walk for an hour and got lost in the soup, had to pull out the GPS to find the road. Back at the truck now and still can't see 25 yards. Some guys did the fire drill coming in this morning so they musta seen hogs right at the Tule Rd entrance into 25. The fog is high and low so you can't get out off it. A bit warmer today, 32F but it's damp cold. 6 mallards just buzzed me. Lots of ducks out and their plumage is awesome now. Only heard 2 road hunters so far go by on the road. Last night I had some guys park in front of me and I had to walk out toward them in the low light. With a dark green shirt on I was a bit worried about them taking a shot at the big dark blob in the meadow. I made it but that was a long tense walk.
I just called 1-800-Blessing. Got a Bhuddist Monk coming out to bless this hunt and lift the fog. Standing by for a miracle.
super cool reading the playbyplay. cant wait to hear about the pigs seen. you guys need bipods! hahaha-just kidding. i cant wait to meet some of the nice folks here! i will have a few rifles shipped to me. count me in for next years event.
I think it was the fog...
I heard no pigs taken but quite a few shots fired. That was as about 12:00 today. Jesse had a ball (I think) at my place with crows and squirrels. Then we set up our turkey plan for the JHO turkey hunt that's coming up in April. Very good to see you Jesse- as always- can't wait till April 4th! Thank you for all my goodies, you rock.
Thanks Eric (XDhunter) for calling me with the area changes. I wanted to call you back and thank you but you didn't leave a number. Thanks also to Deedy and Karin from Bryson Hesperia Resort for the cabin and hospitality.
I checked out at 11am Monday and no hogs from anyone according to the window lady.
Beautiful weekend though to stretch the legs and see some great country and watch some elk and deer.
