Hello I am new to the hog forum and need a little advice.

I will be going on my first hog hunt next weekend and need some advice on shot placement ,hunting tactics and meat care.

Ok I will be hunting with a Ruger Super Redhawk chambered in .454 Casull .I have heard that a hog's anatomy is different than a deer's so where do I need to place my shot? Another question that I have is what is productive tactics for getting close to the target. Baiting is illegal here in Alabama so that's out the door. And what do I need to do with the meat . I know to gut, skin but is there anything else that I need to be concerned with?

Thanks for any info.

Well, for the first thing, I think you're undergunned..

Shot placement - right above the elbow.
Tactics - keep the wind in your face.
Meat care - get it cooled, and then iced as fast as possible. Keep the meat as clean as possible when dressing, DO NOT PUNCTURE THE BLADDER WHEN GUTTING.

Good luck, track 'em and whack 'em, and take some pix.

The heart/lung is low on a pig...aim a bit lower than you would on a whitetail..."just above the elbow" as Rancho says.

Best of luck.

Oh sorry I forgot to post a update.

I saw a few but they were a little too far for me to take a shot comfortably. So I passed. But there is always next time.
