Yes camping is allowed there and right at the locked gate, put these coordinates in your GPS and it'll lead you right to a camp plus there is another just down the road. 36' 22.120 N x 120' 49.900 W

I've been there twice now and got permission from BLM to drive the road past the locked gate on account of my legs. Unfortunately the road is washed out a short way past the parking lot, it'll take an ATV to get back any further. According to Mark at the Hollister office it'll take a month or two to fix. I've seen everything but Pigs up there but haven't been there at the most opportune times. Just starting out hunting after a long hiatus and I'm semi-tired so if anyone wants to go email/PM me.

I had cameras up all last year at Laguna and the only thing I ever caught was a doe and a lion.

johnboy31 Ive seen tone of turkeys on private proprty real close to Laguna Mountain, seen a bunch one time down the hill from the 1st parking area towards the Hernandez Reservoir. Ive seen them around the Reservoir a few dirfernt times. Also seen a cow elk in there.

I also met a group of Turkey hunters there in the fall that almost got some Turkeys at the second parking/camping area but some started target shooting and the all took off.

Some Turkeys I seen, also a reson to carry a weapon when scouting, and that elk, have yet to see pigs but good luck to anyone heading in there!

I haven't hunted there in years, and back when I tromped around there it was not developed at all. Interesting to see that they've done some improvement, but now it probably draws more people? It used to be rare to see anyone back there whien I went in......

AFAIK, Parkfield is "no public land". There are private ranches up there and guides that work out of Parkfield, buy it is not a DIY kind of place.

While hunting Laguna Mountain my best advice is there isn't much sense in waring yourself out until you hear pigs. If everyone would just sit down and wait instead of walking around, the pigs would come out. I made this computer visualization so that I can study the terrain before hunting. The green line is my GPS track up the main trail. I left my GPS in Track Mode as I hiked up the trail before first light. It leads to the place where I sit back and relax while waiting for enough light to use my binoculars.

Hello everyone,

This is basically my first post and its a question. Iam from Los Osos, Ca ( South End of Morro Bay) Iam sure everyone is familiar. Anywho, I have been getting into pig hunting this past year or so. I have a spot in LPNF that has pig trails up the wazooo.

I have been out there right after a fresh rain and the tracks in some of the trails were likely that day. So it has been lots of fun. However, I have yet to actually see the pigs. Very steep terain with very very thick bushes and brush and poison oak.

I have heard plenty of noise though. Lots of hooves going throught the bushes and birds flying away as they move. So I know iam on to a decent size heard. (Pig tracks were 3-4 inches in diameter all the way down to tiny piglet prints.

Once we hear them in the bushes we can pin point the general area. but then it goes quiet like they ran to the other side of the hill or something.

Should my buddy and I be pushing through the brush or should we just sit around and wait? I think the hogs are very comfy in the thick stuff and know they are well protected in there. I have not hunted there in day break but I scouted out an area to post up last Thursday and more hogs running throught the bushes stuff.

Any advice?

In the last 10 years of hog hunting the Condone peak area I've taken 3 hogs, one with 3" tusks, and my daughter has taken one. I stopped going after they turned the place into a more public friendly campground. The place was excellent for deer, pigs, and turkey. Condone peak is located between a wilderness unlimited hunting ranch and another private property, when the hunting pressure picked up on the wilderness unlimited ranch the hogs would cross over condone peak and head over to the private property Side. Stopped going because of tree huggers giving dirty looks and was afraid they would mess with my truck.

Last year about this time me and a couple of my chiefs went up to condon peak to Pig hunt and we saw ALOT of really OLD tracks, no pig. not one. not any fresh signs. not anything. Thats the last time ive tried up there or anywhere to take a pig (which i have yet to do). the only thing we saw were cougar tracks and a fellow hunter hunting for rabbit. I Really would like to hunt a pig down before i leave california so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you are doing the right things. Hogs in the thick nasty stuff can be right in front of you, where you can smell them, yet never get a clear view. One trick that works (sometimes) is to call them with grunt tube or if you are with a buddy, split up and one pushes them while the other waits at the back door.
