Finally. We got the signed contract back yesterday afternoon. Fish and Game...delivering results...

Fish and Game News Release:
The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) has a holiday treat for wild pig hunters in Yolo County. DFG’s Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Program has contracted with a Northern California landowner to conduct a permit-only wild pig hunt on Bobcat Ranch in December. This hunting opportunity will give 64 wild pig hunters access to the private property during two archery periods, two apprentice periods and two rifle periods.

“We are excited to get this first property open to the public through the SHARE Program,” said Victoria Barr, statewide program coordinator. “This is a unique opportunity for the public to hunt wild pig in blue oak woodland that would normally not be open to the public.”

The SHARE Program is a voluntary landowner incentive program. Participating landowners receive liability protection and may receive compensation for providing public access to or through their land for wildlife-dependent recreational activities. The goal of the SHARE Program is to provide additional hunting, fishing and other recreational access on private lands in California.

Bobcat Ranch is in Yolo County’s Vaca Mountain foothills, west of Winters. Hunting under the SHARE Program will help achieve the ranch’s long-term conservation management objectives, which include controlling the wild pig population.

Wild Pig Program Coordinator Marc Kenyon says, "We hope this opportunity through the SHARE Program will be used as a model for other landowners in California as a means to alleviate pig damage on private lands. It's also a long-anticipated use of the revenue generated by the sale of wild pig hunting tags."

Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2010. More information and applications are available on DFG’s Wild Pig Special Hunts website at DFG - Hunting - Wild Pig Management Program - Special Pig Hunts, or by calling Victoria Barr, SHARE Program Coordinator at (916) 445-4034.

Archery hunts come up quick. Get those applications in by next week so we have time to perform the draw and inform archers. Junior and general hunts can wait until the 30th. Sorry this is last minute, but better late than never!!!!!

Don't mention it guys. Not only is it part of my job, it's what I love to do. My only hope is that you all have the opportunity to take advantage of these types of things, enjoy yourselves, and do your part to ensure we can continue to provide these opportunities.

Notification will be by mail. We're working to put all this stuff (application process, drawing results, etc) on-line, but it may take a while.

Thanks Marc! Question for you though, will there be more hunts under the SHARE program in like the early part of next year or spring time for hogs?

Just wanted to ask if there is a fee to go with this app. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.

Gee whiz. Give you an inch, and you want a yard. Just kidding. I'm working with a couple other potential landowners in the state to provide additional opportunities such as this. They're on the fence about the service hunters can provide and are watching this hunt to see how it goes. Maybe by this time next year, but no promises...

This one is a freebie, basically because we got the signed contract in last week and haven't figured out how to get all the application fees back into the SHARE program to fund other hunts. I can get them into the general fund, but who knows where they would go from there - most likely not into other hunts. Long story short - the spring hunt will not be free, so enjoy it while it lasts.

thanks DFG Bear! thats great to see our pig tag revenue is being used for more wild pig hunting opportuneities.
the 6 & 7th. are my days off it would be nice to apply, even if i did get drawn there is noway i am going to be able to do 6 hrs of driving ea. way for me, and gas cost which is still cheaper then a weekend hunt on privet property would be at least $200.00.
it will be nice when u can get some share programs for wild pig hunting closer to the bay area.

so is the ranch really loaded with wild pigs? u have any idea DFG Bear how good archer opportunities and % to harvest a pig on that ranch might be at all?

thanks ....tra

no Mel, i live 3hrs from Lake Sonoma, i already did mapquest, a minimum 6 hr. drive, i wish it was just 3 hrs, the 6th.& 7th. archery hunt are my days off, i would of been happy to send an app. in for the draw opportuneity. oh well MEl i will not give up my pursuit for wild pig hunting opportuneities as long as i live! i am addicted to the thought of always hunting wild pigs with a bow, thats why i am an archer and not a gunner anymore, all i wanted after years of hunting successfully with a gun was new challanges when it came to hunting to keep me excited and never get boared and lose the passion for hunting like i diid with a gun. now that i have it " THE TRUE PASSION of BOWHUNTING WILD GAME" i will never give it up!------->tra

Yeah, 6 hrs is a haul. But if it has a good number of hogs would be worth it.
