Hey Mel. You go for Archery or Gun? I sent my app for gun since I just got out of open heart surgery a few weeks back and can't draw my bow for another month. I should be okay by the gun dates so that's what I put in for. Maybe I'll see you there.

Hey Bobbyz,
I went for both, so hopefully I can draw one. I have terrible luck in draws, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope your recovering, see you in the woods.

Where is this ranch??? Winters is off I-505 with in 20 min from Vacaville and Lake Berryessa. It wouldn't be more than 2 hours for anyone form the bay area, at most.

House4ursoul, did u pre-register yet my friend? i plan on leaving by 2 AM wensday morning get to L.S. to drop my hunter info, then head to my parking spot by 5 am, get geared up and start hiking in the dark for 1 hour to get to the hot spot by first shooting light half hour before sunrise by around 6:30 am give or take a few minutes.

they why i went up there last week to pre-register so i can hit the woods first thing with no delays.
if u havent registered then u are going to have to wait till the l.s. visitor center office opens at 8 am to do that.

so let me now what your game plan is, if u still have to register when u get there before u hunt, then we have too have another game plan. call me and let me know what we have to do to make it work, i have been planning this hunt for 3 months so everything goes smooth by opening day if u know what i mean......tra

thanks DFG Bear! thats great to see our pig tag revenue is being used for more wild pig hunting opportuneities.
the 6 & 7th. are my days off it would be nice to apply, even if i did get drawn there is noway i am going to be able to do 6 hrs of driving ea. way for me, and gas cost which is still cheaper then a weekend hunt on privet property would be at least $200.00.
it will be nice when u can get some share programs for wild pig hunting closer to the bay area.

so is the ranch really loaded with wild pigs? u have any idea DFG Bear how good archer opportunities and % to harvest a pig on that ranch might be at all?

thanks ....tra

tra,

Pig numbers on the ranch are relatively good. They're typically seen around the watering holes on the ranch, even during the winter months. According to the previous ranch manager, they have between 80-150 pigs on the property at any given time. They don't always stick around on the property however. Archers should use the first day to scout for the next morning's hunt, without chasing them around too much. Canyons are pretty steep, and the pigs use them on the Western side of the ranch as daytime cover. I'm unsure what success you can expect. Just be prepared to have a good time getting out there.

As an aside, I'm hoping to work with adjacent landowners to provide expanded opportunities. That way, with well-concerted hunter management practices, we can increase hunter success across this landscape.

As I've mentioned before, I hope to use the Bobcat Ranch as a model for other landowners to watch. If we have good success on this ranch, we can have a good example that will draw in other interested landowners, statewide.

Thanks Bear!

Good work! If one is lucky enough to get drawn, will more information be forthcoming..? For instance, is camping allowed...? Trucks or atv's on the property, or just by foot...? Motorhome parking for out-of-towners...? Game carts...? Skinning facilities...? Stuff like that. Thanks again.

Once drawn, we will disseminate more information about the hunt. Camping is available nearby, but not on the property. The area is walk-in only, and you can bring one non-hunting guest along with you.

long as your application is turned in on time, your odds are the same as anybody else. We are now past the cutt off for this hunt.

We received nearly 1,000 applications to fill 64 slots. The application period was open for only 10 days. Apparently y'all are looking for some good spots to go pig hunting (no duh, huh?).
