TOP PICKS
• AMERICAN RIVER - Last week's catch of a 50-pound striper brought out the crowds, but they didn't catch the same size fish; mostly 3- to 5-pounders found their way into creels. The fish were hitting most anything offered, from early and late topwater to deeper swimbaits, cut baits, pileworms and jumbo minnows. It was best from the Hazel Avenue downstream.SACRAMENTO RIVER, Sacramento - Striper anglers found fish from the Interstate 80 bridge past Discovery Park and up into the American. Smaller bass were around. Trollers found fish as well as baitdunkers using anchovies, pileworms and jumbo minnows.BERKELEY - No slowdown on the halibut action, with near limits on the California Dawn for 16 anglers, and flatties to 27 pounds.CAMANCHE LAKE - A catfish weighing 26 pounds was caught on a whole anchovy. Catfish have been a good bet for anglers fishing near the Northshore Campground and the upper lake. Both bass and trout fishing rated good. Also, good action near the dikes for anglers stillfishing with Power Bait. Bassers found success fishing 25 to 40 feet of water with small plastic worms.
