Hey Matt,

See if you can find some of the Winchester ETips for that .270. I can't say they'll perform a whole lot better than your copper experiences, but from the few shots I've taken with them so far, they do tend to create a little more damage. Maybe they'll work better for you.

By the way, your email didn't come through.

I was going to suggest you try the E tips as well. My favorite bullet is the Nosler Accubond, and these guys look identical. I loaded some for a guy here and he's killed four hogs with them, all one shot deals.

I've been using the Barnes TSX in 7mm and .300 for a couple of years now with good results. I also quit using Sierra bullets for all of the reasons you listed above about the Barnes. Go figure. Something will go wrong with almost any bullet out there.

for those that are not familar with my background,i have been a licensed guide here in california for 9 years, i have been
fortunate enough to have guided and hunted on some very primo ranches and still do, my kids and family have taken
presidence over the guide buisness the last few years, some may know where im coming from, chopper? i still
take my fair share of hunters out, but not as much as i use to,{for those wondering, this is by no way a shout out for
clients, i have many repeaters through out the year}[/b]

First off...Big ups and on the Tusker!
<

Not to hijack the the thread but did you ever guide at Rancho San Julian just north of Santa Barbara off the Hwy 1? You look just like the guy who took me on my first guided hunt there.

Nice Choppers! As for the copper bullets, a good friend of mine who is absolute phenominal shot and has never fired more than one bullet to kill his last ten blacktails, took three perfect shots to bring down his last 3x4 blacktail. He said the same thing you did, little hole in and little hole out. He just wrote a letter to fish and game about his thoughts on copper bullets.

I'm good. Dropped the rifle thing and started an addiction with archery. I always thought you looked familiar. I got a picture of you skinny my hog. As soon as I get my other computer up and running I'll post it up for you. I still remember that day. We both spotted what we believed was a 400lb mountain hog redish brown. I remember me and you jumping out of the truck and trying to sling some lead before the fog rolled in. I was borrowing a buddys rifle and couldn't get the damn bullet unstuck from the action and magazine. Ended up with this guy. 50 yard shot to the heart.

Hatchet1,
With all the problems you have been having with the Barnes bullet, why don't you contact them and let them know what you are finding out. Maybe you have a bad box of bullets? I know from experience they will send you more bullets to try out and are great with working with you to find out what problem you are having. If not then, why continue to shoot those bullets when there are others out there to try? i beileve there is the E tip? I just don't know why you would continue to use a bullet you feel doesn't work and then continue to complain about it? With all of your knowledge and obvious success in shooting alot of hogs, i would think you would take the opportunity you have, to try all of the non-lead bullets out on game? Not trying to bash you in any way, but if i had your obvious good fortune of hunting where you get to hunt, I would have looked at another bullet on the market and try it out. If it has better performance, then you could recommend this bullet from your experiences. i know alot of people on here would probably switch just by you recommending it.. Good luck in your quest to find a suitable performing bullet in this Non-lead Condor Range...

no worries pal, i have extremly thick skin,as for trying the "1" other bullet
on the market, they do not make them in my caliber ,imagine that, and
for the record,no complaints, just stating the facts, i call like like i see it,
and i see nothing but trouble with these bullets,as stated before, its not
just the hogs im shooting, but many of the hogs that are being taken on my watch,
i wish the commision would have done a complete study on these pin holers before
they mandated them, what a shame ,but hey,we must comply, so there you go,
when the e-tip becomes available in the common round of .270, i'll give it a trial
run,until then,its the barneys....

Hatchet,
I just looked at barnes website and they have a bullet called MRX bulet. It is copper on the outside and Tungsten on the Inside with a poly tip? Maybe this will expand a little better since it is not all copper? I have never used these before but they do have them in 130 gr. & 150 gr. for your 270? Contact barnes and have them send you a hand full? they will usually send you some especially since you are so unhappy with their X style bullet... Just trying to help you out!
