HAIWEE RESERVOIR CLOSED: At its June meeting, the Los Angeles Department of Water Power's Board of Directors closed upper and lower Haiwee Reservoir in Inyo County to public fishing. In 1992, under the threat of a lawsuit, the LADWP opened the twin lakes to fishing. Now, they have used the "terrorist threat" theory as an excuse to again close the fishery to the public.

Never mind that the Owens River aqueduct has dozens of road crossing where terrorists would be more likely to try poisoning LA's water supply. Never mind that the eyes and ears of anglers are more likely to help avert anything bad happening at the lakes. Never mind there are places a lot closer to LA that are more vulnerable. Never mind closing the lakes violate the same state law that allowed them to be opened in 1992. This is the same kind of brain-dead thinking that guides our legislature when it comes to firearms issues. Now it's infected a water board.
