I've always been taught to respect the animals we hunt and harvest. I don't like seeing pics of hunters sitting on their deer/elk or othe game much less seeing someone with a piglet hanging out of their mouth. We all have joked around but no need to post the pics on the internet as some anti's do read these pages and we don't need to give them fodder for their fight.
I bet Texas would see a dramatic decrease in pigs if all those feeders were taken down.

I dont have any actual statistics just numbers from vinyard owners i have spoken to. So what this tells me is that when it comes to priorities here in Cali.......................Wine ranks above the lives of deer, pigs, bear and I guess if people started eating more grape leaves they might get thrown in there also but the point here is that me, well not me personally but i do live here and have for most of my life so for the sake of telling this story in the first person I will generalize and just say (me) especially dont care for what other folks think say or do in their own yards! Its my right as Californistanians to hold everyone else to me standards!
So please dont post anymore offensive photographs that me will probably misinterpret to mean something entirely other than what you meant. Killing it is one thing but posting humorous photography may be interpreted here as demeaning and insulting to both the dead animals which me love , (but not in a bad way), and ourselves whom me also love. beleive me I know this from personal experience. Posting humorous photographs here will never fly because everyones idea of whats funny is different and your dealing with some very sensitive individuals. You must understand that We hold all animals in a manner that implies a near sacred honor!( *lest they like eating grape leaves) To disrespect a killed animal is to disrepect my beleifs! to disrespect my beleifs is to disrespect my most valued that is my Wine!
So to summarize I should probably retract the word we and just say me because theres no way Im getting away without raising the ire of everyone else here whos gonn think I meant them when I said We. So as the great and noble william J once said................................."It all depends on what the defenition of the word is, is."

I posted the picture for your viewing pleasure and to illustrate a point among hunters in an Hunting Forum...Never meant to get into an discussion concerning ethics and anti-hunting...I too am ethical.

I guess we're aginst feeders here too!..if it there were no feeders, there would be just as many pigs, it would just be a lot harder to control their numbers. Most people only run feeder 3 or 4 months a year. There is not a massive pig die off the rest of the year because they are eating everything else. Sometime I wished there was!. Obviously you aren't to well informed.
I keep 2 feeders running year around so my son and nephew and all their friend can kill hogs...We enjoy KILLING hogs, lots of hogs, big ones, little ones, we are not picky. The little ones are easier to clean and taste better. We trap them, shoot them with rifles, bows, pistols, shotguns and ethically stab them in the heart with a BIG knife when the dogs bay them up, they especially like that...

I won't get into a anti-feeder debate...Again, I thought this was a Hunting Forum for hunters to share a point of view and their experiences. DANG!.

My bad Bill. I forgot how thick that Texas brush can be and that the feeders are mainly for getting the critters out in the open. I'm not anti-feeder. I believe if it's legal to use, use it.

Bill, if you want to use a feeder use a feeder, and just admit it. Don't try and BS anybody that's it's to bring the hogs out of the brush. If you were truly concerned about the over population, you wouldn't be feedin' 'em period. Now get out of that stand over the feeder and hit the brush and HUNT! Just my

I've hunted in 9 different states and 3 different countries over a span of 31 years....I've probably passed more big game than you;'ve seen. I don't B.S....
What the hell do you know about hunting in Texas. Have you ever even been to Texas? Since your obviously and expert on Texas Hunting and more than likely everything else, enlighten me please.

I'm always up for some learnin'...

IT's time to take a step back and take a deep breath. This has gone a little too far. There's no need for the personal attacks.

JHO has a standing and enforced policy regarding photos showing "hunters" acting inappropriately with dead game. The photo Bill posted has been removed from this site before.

It's not a judgement on depredation shooting, which we all know is a necessary practice.

As far as this idiotic Texas vs California thing... life is way too short. Both states offer some great hunting opportunities and they're both home to some great hunters. Move on.

Bill I'm with ya on the feeder thing with hogs.Many on this board are ignorant to what pigs really do to the landscape,and crops the farmers grow.They think you can just go and shoot them to controll them.This helps in Ca. but cant be done in Texas.If you did not bait,run dogs,hunt at night,Texas would have even a bigger problem with this pest.In Texas a pig is no different than a ground squirrel in Ca.Now that being said.If you shoot a native big game animal like deer or bear elk over bait,I don't care to see it or hear about it.Keep up the good work on the hogs. Upper

I'm with Bill 100%. It is estimated there are between 4-5 million hogs in Texas. We hunt them 24/7 with any legal means (dogs, knives, rifles, pistols, bows, crossbows, spears...whatever). On one of the places I hunt out by Hillsboro, TX, my friend planted 100 acres of corn, and didn't get to harvest one ear of corn. His entire crop was gone! This is his livlihood! Many don't understand the devastation hogs leave in their wake. If a racoon got into your trash every night, and left you a mess to clean up every morning would you give a rip how big the racoon was? Nope...dead racoon! The problem is just as much an issue here in Navarro County as in S. TX. It's a real problem. It's such a problem in fact that no one wants you to hunt deer on the land, but they all want you to hunt hogs. For me, it's hard to believe there are actually people charging money to hunt hogs.

I hear ya on that one, Kevin!

It's become quite the cash cow for some folks, even though I willingly confess that, as a consumer, I'm only helping to perpetuate it by paying to hunt hogs. If nobody would pay, nobody would charge... a simple concept.

Anyway, I just want to make sure it's clear that the only objection to Bill's post was the photo depicting the fella with the piglet in his teeth. That kinda thing might be funny with buddies around the campfire, but not on a world-wide medium.

I read back over this thread and nobody here is slamming depredation hunting or the people who do it. No need to defend something that isn't being attacked.

Wow...this got outta hand fast. No problem with how you hunt sir, depredation or not, and yes I have hunted TX 3 times and love it down there. This all start with the piglet in the mouth, bad taste no matter how you look at it, pun intended

. Any type of legal hunting is ethical to me. I try not to discriminate as all hunters must stand up and defend all types of legal hunting whether it's their cup of tea or not.
