Hi my name is Thomas. I am a first time user of the board and would like to comment on the post that started this whole strand of comments.

First, I would like to make reference to a quote from the message in which the author was making reference that all the hunters in the video were "overweight" what does that have to do with disliking the way an animal was treated. He also states that everyone in the video's name was "Kevin". If that is not stereo typing or a personal blow, then, I owe the first moderator speck an apology. I for one read this and thought man this could get ugly. Thinking that the post was starting off personal.

Second, I hunt hogs exclusively with dogs. I have tied hogs up and I have drug them out of the woods by their snout. All the hogs that I bring home are happy and healthy when they get into the pen and find the feed buckets I have for them there.

Third, I would like to respond to the comment that the author only accepts a "clean kill". I agree with this statement whole heartedly. Now, I have a question to every hunter out there. Has everyone who has shot a hog with a gun or bow dropped the hog in its tracks? Maybe you have and I just don't know how to shoot. I think the more common response would be that the hog ran or you had to track the animal down a time or two. However, the hog in dispute was kept live and was not intended on being killed so why even post the comment. Some people do take live hogs, whether trapped or caught with dogs, to a holding pen feed them like kings and queens then slaughter them for the table. You can also take live hogs to buying stations here in Texas and sell them or donate them to the Hunters for the hungry which would be used to feed a hungry child.

Finally, the author said he was a dog hunter in the past and that he used some poor kids pet pigs or "4-H projects" to train his dogs. Come on! These poor pigs think when they see a human it is for love and FOOD. Am I to assume that his dogs did not harm these animals and every time they worked one of the pigs it was killed cleanely as to not stress them out. Or am I to assume that rather then tying up the pigs to train you just help the animal to its feet and hold a bucket of feed to its face while walking it back to its sleeping quarters. As far as the dog biting the hog after it was tied, I didn't see the video. However, sometimes after you tie one up the dogs leave on another one when they return they may get back on the hog. It is the handlers responsibility to get the dogs off the hog to keep it from being stressed out.

I am sorry I am so long winded it is just that there are people out there trying to take my right to hunt with my dogs away from me. I love and appreciate every opportunity that I get to work my dogs on hogs in the wild. I have not seen the video in question and I am not trying to attack the author. I am just stating how I feel about what was written.

I also invite the author to respond to my post and since he has experience with hog dogs maybe he has some advice for me that could help me in training my dogs in the future.

Take care of your dogs they will take care of you,
Thomas

OK now that everyone has simmered down a bit. I have been a member at TexasBoars.com for some time. I go by Shadow there as well.

First off let me WELCOME everyone to JHP.

For both sides of the fence...we are all hunters and lets act like it. NO PERSONAL ATTACKS and NO FORUM ~VS~ FORUM!!! That will not be tollerated.

As for the Kitty....I'm sorry mine passed away a while back but I think she passed since my lab chased her everywhere and gave her heart failure....no gas cans though. The had that love hate relationship.

Everyone that I know which hunts hogs with dogs are standup folks. Though I personally don't feel like it's hunting since the dog is doing all the work and I have never participated in a dog hog hunt. It is still hunting and needs to be done ethically and humainly. I have never heard anyone on TexasBoars.com EVER bad talk a hunt or talk about having a hog tied and letting the dogs nip at it nor have I ever heard them speak poorly of another hunter.

Can't we all just play nice together?

BTW NO MORE LONG WINDED POST'S...I'M TIRED OF READING ALREADY!!!

Well, as someone who has a history of fire'n off some emotional emails (to coworkers, supervisors, etc.), I have found it only puts people on the defensive.
If Texasboars.com wants to truely defend their position, and the author wants to prove his opinion, AND this site was up for a fair debate, find a way to make some kind of streaming video available for viewing. Then let the informed opinions fly.

I think JHP needs to be left out and not put into the middle of this. This is between the purchaser and TexasBoars.com. I don't feel like TexasBoars needs to defend themselves here, on thier board maybe but I ask that you don't bring JHP in the middle. If you want to moderate it or become an informed opinionated person than go to TexasBoars.com and handle it there. My Opinion.

Shadow,

I don't think Blastmaster is trolling for a forum vs. forum battle. I think he just wants to see the video for free.

Doesn't look like a battle is brewing 'round these parts anyway. The guys are already moving past this issue and getting down to talkin' huntin'.

Shadow I have to agree with you, JHP needs to be left out. As for the rallying, I found this board on texas boars . There was a link suggesting it. I think most of us from texas boars found it there. It was a simple post about game cams if I remember correctly. I hate that Kevin and thew others on that video have to defend themselves because they are all good people.

My point was only that some people are in debate over something they haven't seen. I think that there may be an oportunity to set the playing field fair. That's it.

I don't suggest JHP get in the middle, or there be some kind of battle of the sites. I just don't think the debate should include those who haven't seen the video.

Just to let everyone know, I finally saw the video. As a hunter, I was not at all dsturbed by what I saw.

The hog was tied and the dog did nip at it several times. The only times this happened was when the hog tried to get up. A moving hog is going to make a hog dog react, that is what they are trained for. Each time this happened the dog was called off IMMEDIATELY. There was one instance where the dog was able to nip at the hog for 3 or 4 seconds before someone caught it, that was the worst of it, the other instances were a single nip. After that time the owner pulled the dog off and leashed it to make sure it didn't happen again. This was by no means a continual thing, it only happened a few times before the dog was leashed and the dog never really bit, it was just a NIP. The hog was not harmed and did not seem to be the worse for wear.

Now that that is out of my system, I like this place I may stick around and bug you guys from time to time.

Hey, what's wrong with being a fat guy anyway? I was always told, "If you've got a fine tool, build a shed over it" and that's what I did.

Wait, I'm confused. So, we're NOT invading texasboars.com? And I had my pitch fork and torch ready to go.
