Hi Everyone,
I have a tale to tell:
I just purchased a few items from www.texas boars.com. Great site I thought. I bought a few decals for my truck and a bottle of hog in heat urine. I was egar to try it with calls I have used in the past to call in hogs. With my order they sent me a cd video for free, I thought, GREAT, lets watch this hunting flick! Here is what I saw on their cd:
It starts out with 20 guys named Kevin, so the narrator does not call anyone by the wrong name, all overweight, with their dogs, getting ready to go out and hunt hogs. Then it switches to a hog they have tied up. A 100# sow, with swollen nipples, (from feeding her young) sitting at their feet while a young hound bites at her and the “men” talk about hog hunting. First just her feet were tied up, then, they tied a rope around her upper jaw and drug her to the truck.
Maybe????? It’s just me? I believe in a “clean kill.” Or at least, if your going to capture an animal, cause it as little amount of stress as possible! They drug this pig to a cage and when the door didn’t close someone kicked it closed. End of video…
I have hunted hogs for over 20 years. I have owned hog dogs and hunted them every chance I got. I have been involved in training hunting dogs. Even when it ment buying pigs from the 4H club to train the dogs with. This video was the worst I have seen.
I will no longer support www.texasboars.com. They tortured this scared animal!
Untill they treat every hog with the respect that EVERY BIG GAME ANIMAL deservers I will bad mouth them every chance I get.
I’m new here at Jesses so take this for what it’s worth, maybe go there and check it out…
Thank You,
Mark

Hawghunter,

Interesting... I've been kinda cruising over to Texas Boars to see what they're all talking about, especially since I've been considering an archery hog hunt there sometime (may be heading to Dallas to visit Mudwalker's kin). I'm sure some of the guys who also capture hogs will have something to say about this, but I don't know what to say. Sure doesn't seem right, especially to sell something like this on video. I'm not familiar with the practices, though.

One thing, I agree with you 100% on giving an animal respect.

Hi Hawghunter,

Thanks for the memo. Did you write to texasboars.com and tell them your feelings? I'm curious what their response was. Was their anything else on the CD?

Well Hawghunter, I see you have made an interesting decision to come to Public Board and bash a person behind their back. It takes a real man to do that, I'm impressed.

Hawghunter,

The answer is NO! Mr Hawghunter would rather take the matter behind my back and post it somewhere else where he can run his spin with no oposition.

Yes, the video does contain an excellent vidoe of Hunting Hogs with dogs. The hogs were captured alive and sold to market. The moneys made were used to assist a fellow board member who was in need!

#1 The video was free with his purchase. This video is no different than ten of hundreds of Hog Doggin videos on the market today. In fact it is most likely quiet a bit cleaner than many of them.

That's OK if you're not familiar with the practice of hunting hogs with dogs. Nothing wrong with that. You don't even have to agree with it, that's OK too. This is America and we all have our rights. AND,, it is our right and it is legal to hunt hogs with dogs. This practice has been been taking place for centuries and was a vital part of hog farming in earlier years when free roam hog farming was practiced.

Now.. I'll be glad to practice my rights, and offer my polite and humble position regarding Hawghunter.
TexasBoars along with many other websites and message boards have been flooded with ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST. They purchase products and gather all the crap they can. THEN,, travel on over to other outdoor boards and spin a tale of CRAP to get us hunters arguing and frothing mad at each other. THEY LOVE IT. Its the only thing they have to do besides try to hit is with viruses and hack our websites.
I have clearly discovered that Hawghunter is clearly one of those people. He/she or whoever you are made a clear choice to stab me and all my fine members in the back with some outlandish accusations. And the post is clear attempt to start a fude among fellow hunters.

TexasBoars has supported the content of this website for several years now and will continue to do so.
if any of you folks have any questions about what TexasBoars is or what we're about visit the message boards and ask.
But remember, I have rules over there, no cursing backstabbing or otherwise destructive posting. The purpose of my message boards is to provide information, assistance, promote and encourage folks to participate in the outoddors.

Thanks for your time and Hawghunter will ban from my message boards immediately as an animal rights activist who is intentionally trying to put hunters at odds with each other.

TexasBoars,

I understand your position, and even your unhappiness with Hawghunter's post. But two things..

First of all, he's absolutely within his rights to speak out his opinion about the video and the practices it depicts. Nowhere in his comments were there any personal attacks or comments about you or anyone else. He kept his comments focused on the video, not the individuals.

Second of all, while you're also free and encouraged to post your response to his criticism, a flame war will not be tolerated in this forum. You want to impugn Hawghunter on a personal level, you can do it in email or through your own boards at TexasBoars. Don't bring that in here.

Sorry to take such a harsh stance, but there it is.

IMO, you have the best, most informative Wild Boar site on the web!

I have no opinion on hunting with dogs since I've never done it. I haven't seen the video so I can't comment on that ether.

I wish I had a couple dogs to hunt my pig spot here in So Cal. I’ve been chasing these beasts for some time now with no success. Night hunting and baiting are prohibited in CA, so dogs seem to be the answer.

Thanks for all the great info on your site.

Well, not that I have to defend Hawghunter. But after reviewing his 53 posts over the last year, I don't see any anti-hunting, anti-gun sentiments. Just regular friendly hunting talk.
Like Pitdog said, I like the TexasBoars website, but have never seen the video that Hawghunter mentioned.
The whole dog issue is something that has been discussed here several times, and will probably be debated in the future. Sadly, it's one of the issues the anti-hunters use to divide hunters.

MARK,

There are many of us who think you are just another California animal rights wacko posing as a hunter.

And personally based on your remarks, I would have to agree with that assessment. I know the folks that you are referring to and your diatribe about their treatment of a wild animal is completely false. I know these folks to be ethical, honest, and standup people.

So right here and right now, I am challenging you to prove your statements with facts. You made certain statements in a public forum, now I demand that you back up your claims with hard facts.

The one telling statement that indicates to me that you are a poser, and just another Liberal trying to appear to be a sportsmen in some twisted scheme to give your remarks credibility based is as follows:

And I quote you ...

"Untill they treat every hog with the respect that EVERY BIG GAME ANIMAL deservers I will bad mouth them every chance I get."

Did you ever contact them to clarify what you allege to have seen ? I have the CD that you refer to. I have never seen this footage that you claim exists.

If you are a Liberal wacko, I hope everyone here smokes you out.

Take a deep breath, JFree. Hot-headed, personal attacks on Hawghunter will only lend credibility to his claims. I haven't seen the video and, like any other post I read on an internet board, I take it with a grain of salt. Having been around pigs on a farm when I was a kid, I know they're tough as nails and somebody kicking the door closed on one doesn't really bother me. Neither does "hog-tying" a pig, although a dog chewing on him when he's tied up does. A suggestion - Texasboars ought to send a couple of the CD's to a couple regular folks on the board and that would settle the debate. Want my address?

I am a member at texasboars.com and I know the people there to be the best people I have ever met on the web.

All the people who frequent the forums, try very hard to present our sport in a positive light.

If anyone would like to go and take a look. There are many pinned topics on hunting ethics, disabled hunters, youth hunts, feeding the hungry, and respect to landowners. Many topics have been discussed on the subject of ethical treatment and shot placement of hogs as well.

I just wanted to stop by and defend what I know to be an excellent group of people.

Nice Forums, by the way.

Wow!
First off I choose not to respond to anyone on a personal level. Say what you will. I did however cruise texasboars site and read some of the forums. There seems to be some good information there. Also a lot of good stuff about taking care of your dogs and wild hogs that you have caught and keep. this information seems to contradict the dog biting the hog they have tied up in the video.
I did not realise that texboar is a forum and not just a store. My bad. I am not attacking the members there, I'm sure they are good people. Still, I have to stand by with not agreeing with the way they treated that hog.
In the cd they have a wild hog, tied up, and have a dog standing over it barking and biting it. I don't agree with that, never did and never will. The pig is caught, pull the dogs off.
As far as me being an animal activist? Never been called that before.
Whatever.
I believe that we need to take responsibility for wild animals that we capture, and that means protecting them from undue stress and harm. What do you think the anti's would do with this video? It's hard enough being a hunter already now a days.

I am a member at TexasBoars too and EVERYONE that I have had contact with has been upstanding and responsible. I have not seen this video yet, so I am not sure what footage you are talking about.

I understand TexasBoars frustration with the comments made because they do not reflect what the site or people are about. The comments from Hawghunter do look very much like a personal attack when you are coming from our site to yours. If it is not meant that way then you should probably get together and work this out with the folks that are offended by the comments.

Hawghunter mentioned that he has been hunting hogs with dogs for 20 years. If so, then he should know that the practice of tying a hogs snout and pulling them by it into a pen is not harmful to the animal. A hog's nose is very tough and to be honest it is probably less stressful for the hog and certainly safer for the hunter. It is dangerous to pick up a 100# pig tied up or not. It is also terrifying for an animal to have a couple of guys grabbing it up close and putting it in a pen. If you can work with a rope from a distance it is just better for everyone in some cases. As far as the dog chewing on the tied up hog, I haven't seen that video so I don't know if it happened. But I do know that this is not something that is common and that TexasBoars does not endorse that kind of behavior.

I recommend that we let cooler heads prevail and talk out the problems and frustrations. It might help if Hawghunter personally contacted TexasBoars to talk about it. Just my thoughts, do with them as you will.

Let's not get into a forum vs forum conflict here. (Look at all the new, first-time posters here - someone at the other forum is rousing their troops.) The man voiced his opinion, apologized for not recognizing that it was not just a store, and many people, including myself, do not feel that unnecessarily tormenting an animal is acceptable. I don't pull wings off flies or set cats on fire, either.

This topic and conflict should just die away, in humble opinion.

Thanks Hawghunter. That was a very civil and adult response and it is appreciated.

This looks to be a very nice board and I for one intend to stick around. The result of so many new members for you guys is not a result of troop rallying. We have, one by one, been talking with one another and that was the result. There is no forum vs. forum going on. I assure you in that.

"Let cooler heads prevail" is the note of the day and I hope that Rick's post is not the consensus at Jesse's. I think it was resolved quite well.

I often pull the wings off small or mid-sized birds and set cats on fire as well.

Well Hoghammer, welcome to you and all the new members. We do have a great bunch of guys here, and the campfire's always warm. Sometimes a little hot, but for the most part warm and friendly.

Maybe I can put in my two cents worth that might help to mitigate the hostility that 's here in this topic.

The members of JHP should know me well enough that I need not introduce myself to them nor have to prove my credibility. But lest I get branded with the anti-hunter label too, I want to let all of you first-time posters (presumably from texasboars.com) know that I am a longtime hog hunter. I hunt hogs exclusively with dogs every week of the year and can't imagine any better way to spend my free time.

Now that I have that foundation to build upon, let me make some basic assertions for the sake of both sides...

*The pulling of a hog by the snout is a tried and true practice of transporting a tied up hog. This practice causes only minimal discomfort to the pallet of the hog when done appropriately with the proper equipment. It minimizes stress for the hog and danger to the hunter. There is nothing inherently cruel in this practice.

*Not sure how relevent the weights of the hunters is to the conversation. By that inclusion into the post, it did nothing but attempt to paint a stereotypical picture of the average hunter, or average dog hunter. I can see how this could easily offend people.

*Us hunters, and especially us dog hunters, are under the microscope on a daily basis. Everything we do is scrutinized by the citizenry, media and anti hunters. We should tread lightly in order to reinforce as favorable an image as possible. This includes respecting the animals we hunt when both alive and dead. Nor should we act as best we can only when hunting. For examle, because my dogbox is welded to the bed of my truck, I never have the option of not looking like a houndsman. With this in mind, I try to drive as courteously as possible whenever I can in order to maintain a favorable image.

*We do not hunt in a vacuum. We may publish images and video for the entertainment and enjoyment of other hunters, but they are not available exclusively to hunters. The general public can stumble across them and the anti's are certain to be looking for them in order to sway the opinions of the general public.
We should always keep this in mind and include the most appropriate images possible. If you don't think this matters, you should have been in California to see the advertising of Propositions 117 and 197. the images of a lion being shot out of a tree (paralyzed, not killed) and then mauled by dogs on the ground was the most powerful weapon the antis had. And you know what, hunting lions lost both times...the second time even more resoundingly despite the deaths of two women. The hunt was legal, but the result was less than should be expected. We all know that our actions can have unintended consequences, but if a record of those unintended consequences ever gets out, the results can be catostrophic to our actions. Give the anti's an inch and they will certainly take a mile. Even under the best of circumstances, our sport is questionable by the public. We need not give the anti's any more ammo than they already have.

*Unless it is included in the Texas (or anywhere else for that matter) State Constitution, hunting hogs is not an inviolable right. You can argue that hunting is your God-given right until you are blue in the face, but legally speaking, "that dog don't hunt." We should all be mindful of the manner in which we act so as to maintain favor with the general public. They will ultimately determine how long you can lawfully hunt.

*Before you dismiss what I say as being due to the fact that I live in the Land of Fruits and Nuts, let me remind you of something. There was already one attempt to ban the use of dogs to hunt hogs in Texas, so if you think that Texas will never follow in the footsteps of California, look out. The Austin and Dallas complex is a liberal bastion and will only get worse as more California businesses (i.e. Silicon Valley) bring more California residents to Texas. Do not be so disillusioned that you think you are immune.

Sure, Jim, who'd want to harm that kitty looking all cuddly? But post a realistic picture of the dang thing - walking over my cars on a dewy morning (leaving her stinkin' footprints all over them), taking dumps in my flowerbeds or my kids' sandbox, or humping my Malibu lights.

Dang it, where's my gas can??
