I'm trying to round up some people to hunt with me at Chopper's. It's an archery only hunt. The possible dates are 3/13-15, 3/20-22. Cost is $400 per hunter with a $200 deposit up front. This includes a two day hunt, room for two nights and food(I think). I already have two people possibly going. That leaves 5 spots. Check out their operation at birdsandboars.com.

Chopper has a 4000 acre ranch. Lots of hogs, deer, quail, coyotes and bobcat.

The ranch is near Hollister a few hours north of LA. I've never been before, but it sounds like a great operation and a great opportunity to hunt where game is plentiful.

It's just southwest of Hollister. I'm familiar with the most of the surronding ranch's and have seen some poor to excellent reviews. The most complaints being that its SEMI-Guided for $400 and also No Dressing or Skinning of the game is included. I really don't see it being a bad deal as it is 2 day access and lodging in a house on a fairly large ranch.

Yes, you have to dress your own game. He will help if you don't know what you are doing. THere is a walk-in cooler and game hoist, so the job is pretty easy. The times I have been there, he pretty much guided us, but we handled our own game.

As with this hunt, as well as most hog hunts in CA, guided or Smi-guided you are paying for access to a private ranch with a good oportunity to get a hog.

It turns out that I can't do the 13th-14th hunt. I can only do the 20th and 21st. Any takers?

I'd like to know who gave poor reviews and who complains about $400 for a 2 day hunt where you are allowed to take 2 hogs.

And FOOD is NOT included in these hunts.

It's a great deal. $400, 2 hogs, 2 nights in a house. When you add it up, it's not much more than a Camp Roberts trip.

March 19th-21st.

Who's in?

Not to mention your in a warm house and not a TENT!! And you will actually SEE hogs unlike Camp Roberts!! If I (My wife actually) were not having a baby 2 weeks before, I would be all over it!! I'm trying to get it out of my system this weekend or next, Before I'm put on the shelf for the next 4-6 months.

Ha, ha. "get it out of your system" that never works. Going hunting only makes me want to hunt even more.

I definitely want to go however, I won't know for sure for at least another week if I can get away.

I think I will either get to do the JHO/POR or this hunt but probably not both. I would rather go on the bow hunt here, since I am dyeing to stick a hog with my bow. If I go on the POR I would probably need to take the rifle since there will be so many guys there and I REALLY want to take a hog with the bow.

I will no for certain in the next few days.

There's a chance that I might be able to make it. I will be changing jobs March 10th. Not sure how my schedule will look ( I might have to travel). Is there a deadline for the deposit? Is it refundable if I have to pull out? I'm new to bowhunting and like Orso said, and from the talks I had with Chopper previously, this hunt seems like a good oppurtunity for a novice bowhunter.

I might be able to get an additional three guys. I'll check.

I'm not sure when the deadline for the deposit is, or if it is refundable. I would say send your $200 deposit to me by the first week of February. Induvidual hunters can pay their own balance on the weekend of the hunt. I will pm my address to anyone interested.

lolololol I think she wants me out now. She (out of the blue) gave me a free hall pass for the next 2 weekends. Probably so she can go spend $$$$$ for the new one coming our way!!!

Here’s the deal.

The $400 fee is per person. $200 deposit per person due by Friday February 20th. Balance due upon arrival at ranch. Lodging will be included with this hunt. Lodging is in a 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin. It’s more of a house than a cabin. Cabin has all the amenities necessary for cooking. Pots/pans/dishes/gas bar-b-/charcoal bar-b-q/utensils….etc……
Cabin has 2 bathrooms with hot showers. A great room in the middle with a large fireplace and is stocked with firewood. Cabin sleeps 6 very comfortably, more if you squeeze a little.
There is NO REFRIGERATOR. A generator is on site but not reliable enough to guarantee it’s use.
You should bring ice chests for your food and drinks. If you don’t want to wash lots of dishes, then paper plates are recommended.

Hunt takes place on 4000 acres of private property. This is a SEMI-GUIDED hunt. You will be directed to areas of the ranch where game is known to frequent. You may be dropped off and told where to go, then picked up later or you may drive your own vehicle to hunting areas on the ranch.

A skinning area with electric hoist is available for your use. There is a walk in cooler available to hang your meat until you depart.

If you have any other questions that I have not answered, please post them here for the benefit of everyone.

Man, I'd really love to go but I just special ordered my bow on Friday and I know there won't be enough time for me to practice with it assuming it even comes in before the hunt date.

One question: Is this two hog thing always in effect at Chopper's or just for this hunt? I couldn't see anything about that on the Birds and Boards website.
