I can't get this hunt out of my head and am spending all my free time either shooting, organizing gear or playing with maps on the web. I guess that's what happens in the off season though. See you guys in a few weeks.
For anyone in the bay area, I will be heading to San Francisco Archers (Pacifica) outdoor range both Saturday and Sunday morning this weekend (weather permitting) to do some shooting if you want to get out and kill some paper targets!
The reason I pm'd the lat long was cuz I didn't want the whole world knowing where I live! Wanna see my ranch, book a hunt. The lat/long post was removed. I'll be glad to give it to anyone coming on the hunt but please don't post it here.
I'm chomping at the bit here! Then Chopper had to go and post this monster!
I dunno how I'll make it.
On top of everything else, I just finished off my archery target out back. Blew the danged vitals clean out of him. Can't even piece them back together. Oh well, the butt's still intact, so I guess I'll spend the next week or so practicing Texas heart shots.
Oh, by the way... I brewed up the chili. I think it's always better after freezing for a while, but initial indications are positive. One warning, I don't have the MSDS sheets here, but there will be a yellow flag flying over the chili pot. It's kinda spicy.
Sweet, can't wait to try the chile. The wait is killing me too
I know how you feel about the target. I have a 3D deer which is in great shape and a 2'*2' foam target which was toast. I spent Saturday afternoon fixing it up. It now has a relatively new 2 foot by 2 foot, 6lb density 2" thick foam front and back section and 3 sections of 3" thick 4lb density foam in the cneter all bound together with contact cement clothes hangers in the 4 corners. Basically the thing is a 2'x2'x15" block and is awesome, my arrows don't even stick out the back and I have no need for support rods to hold it up anymore
Something you guys want to consider for the upcoming hunt. Scent control, scent control, scent control, scent control. I can't emphasize it enough. SCENT CONTROL.
I have had more hunters get busted by the hogs nose than anything else.
That's good to hear. I thought I was just being paranoid bringing 3 sets of camo, all washed in scent free soap and in zip lock or scent control bags. One of them is a Scent Loc set as well. That and showers with scent free soap and some scent eliminator spray as I'm heading out.
Same as deer season I guess, sure you don't have to use it all but it just may give you a slight edge when it is needed. It's either that or it gives me something to do in the week before any hunts, not sure which
I hear that Speckmisser, with this warm weather and such, was going to be doing the primitive thing and hunting in just a loincloth. Thinking ahead, like he's known to do, he figured he wouldn't have to worry about the clothes and scent control.
Yeah, i already discussed the dress code w/ bigtusker & the minimum is pants and long sleeves....ya know, for safety reasons (well that and i don't care to see a man in a loin cloth.....no offense Speck). I'm ready to get at dem hogs next week....
Dang, Rancho... I didn't think that picture you took of me came out. That's me, drawing down on the elusive, but quite deadly, two-headed bald partridge squirrel. Unfortunately, there was a limb blocking my shot, and rather than take the risk of tracking a wounded adversary, I decided to hold my fire and let that one live to fight another day.
Yeah ladies, and I'm REALLY built like that too.
Man, if I can't wear my loincloth on this hunt, I guess the polar-fleece g-string is out too?
