Thanks for the opportunity to put somebody on a hunt.
I would like to go on this hunt and take the family with me. ( wife if she wants, son-15, daughter-11, and son-1 ) The oldest has been hunting since he was 10, and only gotten birds. He was with me when I missed a buck last year, and then when I got a buck. The excitement he showed was something that I will remember forever. He has a junior tag this year, and on the way to our hunt last Saturday, we saw a toad of a buck that got him all excited, too bad it was 5:00 in the morning, pitch black, another hour to shooting light. My daughter has been on some bird hunts, she was with me when I helped a fellow hunter drag a deer out of the woods, wanting to touch and feel and pet the deer, and didn't even call it Bambi. The youngest has all kinds of energy, and loves being outside, with shoes or without.
I grew up hunting in Washington, it was a family thing. After leaving there for the Navy, I have gone back for hunting a few times, but my hunting now and for a while to come is California. A chance to get the kids in the outdoors is the main reason I hunt. It is becoming a confused generation of kids, not knowing what the outdoors is all about.
I take the oldest out with one of his buddies every once in a while, and get nothing but positive comments, saying they want to do it more. I think kids need outdoors experience, and being able to have the chance to take game home adds to the experience.
If I am not picked, that is fine, but whoever is chosen, I hope that you take a newbie, wether its the neighbor, neighbors kid, your own child that hasn't been, introduce them to the outdoors and hunting.
If everbody did this with just one person per year, maybe we could change the attitude of, and towards, hunters for generations to come.:JHO rocks:
