Thanks. I'm looking forward to the plans. By the way, what's the regulation on trapping pigs? I called DFG about a month ago on it and the game warden had no clue about it. He said it wasn't even in the regulation book and didn't know what to tell me. Some help he was LOL. Can anyone here shine some light on this question?

I'm not sure about your state, but in Arkansas, it's encouraged on private hunting land. Our game and fish want them gone! :)

Here in California in order for one to trap you must have a depredation permit. I built this for a guy but never came by to pick it up. So now it just sits. The gravity/Guillotine trap door seems to work the best.

If you have a depredation permit for your privately owned or leased property, my understanding is that you or whichever private party that does the depredation may keep the carcass. There is nothing in a depredation permit that tells you what to do with the carcass. I have hunted pigs on a depredation permit. All bets are off - method of take, time of day, no license or tag required. It is great. :)

This may be different if the county depredation person does the depredation for you. That officer must toss the carcass. (In reality, I am sure the coyotes are tossed, I am not so sure about the pork. :pig-laughing:)

You still have to use non-lead in the condor zone. Certain methods of take, such as buckshot, are not legal. It's in the fine print of the permit.

In CA, once you trap the hogs you have to kill them, and to kill them in the Condor range you must use non-lead, regardless of whether you are sport hunting or depredation hunting (as of December, 2008).

You may NOT trap hogs without a depredation permit in CA.

The officer who approves the permit will determine how you must dispose of the carcasses, as well as what means you may use to depredate the hogs (traps, rifles, archery, etc.). They usually let you do what you want with the meat, as long as you do not sell it.

That's weird, how come the game warden from the fresno's fish and game department didn't have a clue when I asked him. Must have been a rookie?

For sport hunting, if your "method of take" is NOT listed in the regulations, then it is NOT legal.

Trapping is not listed.

Dang! You guys have a lot of restrictions on trapping hogs. I guess there's a reason for them all, but I sure am glad we're not that limited here.
