I see how he March 10 caption says they are looking at a plan to eradicate the pigs...That just sucks...Let them be and give hunters 100% access to them suckers!!!

DFG will not eradicate pigs.....they will leave that to the landowners. DFG supports hunting because it makes money for them and they dont have to oversee it like an eradication program. If they start a program and keep everything public.....people from all around will hunt em! give it 5 years and all of CA will be covered.

I remember when the lady said she ran over 2 on Poway Rd., there was alot of skepticism that they got that far. According to the map though, they killed 2 boars in with some horses a little while later.... Dayum..... :toast-yellow:

I know of no instances where CA DFG has left any species, once determined to be threatening to the environment, up to hunters to control.

I hope they breed and multiply like crazy. It will be nice to hunt pigs close to home. And for the tejon ranch complaining that they cant keep up with the number they need to kill how about lowering the price or allowing the take of more than one pig per hunt.

I've always thought that, not specifically with tejon, but places in general that are overrun with hogs. We hear about how destructive they are, and how they want them killed. Then, you offer to go take out a few, and they say "That'll be $750 please". Look, I absolutely agree with people making $$$$$$, especially if it's their own land. however, don't complain about how much damage they are doing, and how they are running wild, but then try to make $$$$$.. Either run it as a business, or if you want them truly gone, open your doors to the public.

During Tejon's incoming briefing they tell you about how the hogs are tearing the place up and how they want them all gone and then tell you not to shoot wet sows? WTH???

Wet sows should be the first pigs they want targeted if they were serious about getting rid of their hogs. On the other hand wet sows are cash cows and are protected. You tell me what they are managing the hunt for.

I've never hunted pigs at Tejon (yet) but the claim that they're overrun and want to get rid of them doesn't ring true. Like Jesse and Vermonster said if they really wanted to get rid of them they would tell you to shoot wet sows and drop the price. Even if you wanted to totally eradicate them through hunting I can see charging people to hunt them for two reasons. #1. Obviously to make money. I mean, there's people willing to pay to hunt them so you might as well make money, however, if you were trying to get rid of them maybe lowering the price to like $400 from $750, for example, would get you twice as many hunters and you'd actually make more money and get rid of more pigs. #2. To control access to you property. Just to have some control of who is hunting the property and to have some accountability if someone doesn't "behave". Personally, IMHO, places like Tejon don't really want to kill the cash cow (or pig in this case)..

You are correct. Telling the public they are barely able to kill enough pigs every year basically advertises that they have plenty of them. They wouldn't know what to do without all that income.

I don't blame Tejon at all. Heck, they're a hunting ranch anyway, so of course they are going to charge for it. I just laugh at alot of the other farmers and ranchers that talk about how much the pigs tear up their land, but then if you ask them to go hunt, alot of them will try to charge a pretty hefty sum.

Most of the ranchers that allow hunting are booked every weekend of the year. The price we pay for private land hog hunting in CA is only going one direction...up.

IMHO
From someone who has seen over the last two years of hunting these local pigs, the more guys that hunt them the more they scatter and go to places that have no pressure(private land, the state park, insanely hard to get to areas). Its to late to get rid of them!!! But if they would have had 1-2 more years before all the damn newspaper articles on them we would have had a much better population to hunt. Now they will take many more years to really get a good foothold, if they are able to ever get to more than just small groups of 3-4 pigs at a time. The only place these things are really ever going to take off is Cuyamaca State park and none us will ever get to hunt there!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as Damage....... holy crap...these things have totally distroyed the area that they were in, over a year ago the stuff was so thick a snake couldn't get through it...now its a total wasteland...it would just make it easier to find them if they didn't get pushed out already!!!!

They are deffinately out there, but finding them isn't as easy as it was a year ago!!!!!

I was out turkey hunting in SD area and ran in to some pig hunters from LA.
They were very disapointed because someone there told them to come down here because we were overrun with pigs. They were given directions on were to find the pigs and told that they run in goups of 20 to 30 pigs.I told them that they were in the right area, but they were like asking so where are the pigs. I told them I have been in this area hunting turkey and deer for a long time and I have yet to see a pig.
I told them that there aren't as many as poeple think. I said come back in a couple of years and maybe there will be a stable population. So I expect we will be seeing a lot more people from other areas as the media hype reaches outward.
