OMG! My back hurts just from looking at the photos!! May I offer you a solid peice of unsolicited advice regarding game mounts? Never, under any circumstances ever ever consult the wife beforehand. It is 1000 times easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission. I will be eager to hear how it tastes.

LOL, I must have married well, my wife rearranges the house to make sure the mount is properly displayed. A coupla years ago, I went on a 10 day hunt and the wife redecorated the master bedroom in an outdoor/hunting theme, complete with elk wall art. Then insisted I make a log 4 post bed for the room. Them dang Texas gals.....

You'll go a long time around here without a mount before you find one that's four inches, without pulling teeth. Too many rocks and probably mineral deficient. That's as good as you'll EVER see here. They might go four inches, but I haven't put a tape on 'em. Frankly I don't care: they're outstanding and have great ivory on the uppers. And you're right; he's a nice looking boar.

My wife is a little bit different. I don't hold stuff back from her. In fact, I told her this one's going right at the foot of the bed! Mainly it's the expense that is the issue. I just took a blacktail to the taxidermist last week. I've got another hog head to do a euro mount on in the freezer too. Hmmm......

I was wondering who it would be who would stoop so low as to make a bad pun off of that. It had to be you, Kevin. LOL

Nice hog Alan. Almost beat me to take over the base record. For those that may not know, I shot a hog in June 07 that tipped the scales a 288lbs gutted. Only thing is I popped mine with a little 45 cal muzzleloader. Alan was there for this hunt. We shot almost simultaneously. He got a little, by comparison, 180lb hog. The first pic is Alan and my tandem hogs, the 2nd is my big boy hanging on my apt wall.

Those were good times. I doubt we'll ever see anything like what you killed that night (but this was pretty damned close). I can still remember rolling up to it, looking down and going: "Holy $hit!"

The color pattern on that large boar is quite spectacular. Is that common?

We got this one two year later, about 400 yards from the 288 pounder and this one gutted out at 202 lbs. We're convinced this one was related to the big boy. As to color; we see everything out here. Pure black maybe the least frequently. What looks black usually turns out to have a lot of brindle or gray in it.

Seems familiar

Wow three gnarly looking huge ol' boars. I see what you mean about the one in the middle with the big tusks looking like that earlier large boar. Definitely a sibling or other close relative. Somehow the one on the right also looks familiar. Could I have glassed that one while hunting up past Paso Robles? I know I’ve seen that wily critter somewhere before. Thanks 410 for all the intel. in the posts. My next hog hunt (not with Tom W) is not till late March. I'll go for lots of pictures again. Got to go to Baja to chase fish/whales for a couple of weeks and close out lobster diving season before then..

During the deer season of '09, I saw a bunch of little piglets running around in the field that Steve shot the 202 boar. Some of the black ones had the same grey forehead marking on them. Grandchildren, great grandchildren, who knows.

Steve and I saw 'em too. Steve commented that one of them walked right up to him and looked him in the eye at about six feet and had a big white blaze on his forehead. He kinda felt guilty for shooting "Dad". For about five minutes.......
