First I want to say this is a great Forum, and is a lot of good people here
<
, I'm a hunter
who likes to hunt for the meat. now the question for those that claimed that hunting wild pigs
is a good deal, I'll say to them please do the math!!, this does not apply for those here that they
only hunt for the sport or trophies.

Lets say you pay $ 400-500 + to kill a one pig, ok, now you gonna put that sucker in the freez,
adding gas, expensive these days!, and cutting meat work, package it, keep the pig in ice for a couple of days or more, drive 5+ hours back home and taking the risk it may spoil in the way ,
or you just got a sick pig that you planning to eat an your family, kids, etc.

In the other hand pork meat isn't expensive if you compare it with cattle meat believe me, add
all that money together, and you'll find out isn't a good deal, yeah many of you may say
yeah but this wild pig it's a lot better taste and blaa blaa, don't forget the worms, trichinosis,
brucellosis, etc.

Final: one thing is for sure I wouldn't feed my kids with it, and if you get sick you can't work
add al together to the total cost of you pig hunt for food.
In few words: if you gonna pay a guided hunt big $$$ for a sport thropy go for it, but if killing
to eat like I said before do the math, I read a lot of hunters in this forum that they don't mind
paying good $$$ to put a pig in the freez. Quote

7mag....hey, that's great news, glad to hear you won't be out doing any pig hunting. If i was consumed with the price of hunting & the guided trips i go on, i'd stay home and eat fried bologna--it's a hellofa lot chaper, but i'm not...i enjoy the woods, hunting, and learning from great guides. Oh yeah, don't forget CWD...the next deer you kill could have it, better not feed that to the kids either.

**Forgot to mention, i'm not rich and work two (2) jobs to afford hunting

Don't go then. Many of us love the taste of wild pork and enjoy the fun of the hunt at the same time. If all you care about is $$$$$ spent for what you put in your freezer then I'd say give up hunting all together. I'll hunt public every chance I can get for hogs but the bottom line is you will probably spend as much on gas and the many trips to bag a pig on public as you would for land access to get your hog. There are some chances on public land but it is slim pickins in CA. This is your 5th post and its hard to tell the difference in 4 of them. The same, as you stated, blah blah blah.

Welcome to the site and good luck in filling your freezer the cheapest way possible.

I'm getting confused.
<

Is it you like to hunt but not eat or is it you like to eat but not hunt or was it you like to hunt what you don't eat or maybe it was you like to eat what you don't hunt.
Oh now I'm confused again.

Arrosliger:

Man your missing the whole point here! , read the post again my friend ?
I said if you hunt for food only, no for the fun of it, is two complete different things
EXAMPLE: you may go to hunt elefants that doesn't mean your gonna eat it , you talked like
if you're a mountain man living in the mountains and you have to fish and hunt to survive,
a very good one too , with a Computer, give me a break!!

So which was the aggressive part, the pointing out your posts all sound the same or the wishing you luck filling your freezer? Just curious.

You obviously have a different idea of hunting than I do. I am glad that I do not have to justify every hunt to myself based on the cost of the meat harvested in $$$/lb against a trip to safeway. I feel sorry for you. I am also done responding, life is too short.

Cheers,
Steve "the quite obviously aggressive gay from San Francisco"

7Mag,

Not sure what your point is.

Nobody on this list is hunting only to eat (although there are several who probably can make it through the year on the game they harvest). Best I can tell, no one has made any such claim either.

If you're in a position where you need to hunt to feed your family, then I suggest turning off the computer and taking it to the pawn shop. Then spend the time you're using to post online, and use it to get a job instead.

We hunt for fun. Sport hunting is not even mildly economical compared to buying farm-raised meat. That's not news to anyone who's had to pay their own bills for more than a year or two. Hell, it costs me more to drive to my favorite hunting area than it would to feed the family for half a week.
<

Beyond that, yes, I have said that I'm primarily a meat hunter. All that means is that I place no real value on a set of horns or large tusks. Doesn't mean I am a subsistence hunter or anything of the sort.

So, bottom line... what are you getting at?

Wow, this thread degenerated pretty quickly... in the time it took me to write my post.

7mag, you haven't been around long, so it's hard for folks to know much about you. Likewise, we can't expect you to know much about the JHO site. But just to tune you in on one of the finer points... don't go slinging flames around.

If you want to go casting aspersions on folks who disagree with you, you won't last here. Read the terms of membership.

7mag,

First off, I don't think anyone here hunts because its cheaper than going to a supermarket, so the cost factor is out. We hunt because we love the outdoors and love the "hunt" itself. If hunters are worried about the cost they would of never picked up hunting as a sport, its just part of the game. The amount of money I have spent on hunting alone I probably could of bought a house with.

Second, what is your point of the meat being bad. I love wild game meat, I would pick it any day over a farmed raised animal. And as far as feeding it to your kids, well buddy I have been eating wild pig meat ever since I was 2 years old, and not once have I been sick. Well, I guess it is your CHOICE to feed it to your kids, but please don't make it look bad for people who enjoy eating the meat.

Hi everyone, I am new here and I'm posting to see if anyone is having the same problem is me
when it comes to hunt , what I'm trying to say is I got all I need to hunt except a hunter partner,[/b]

It's getting to be quite obvious why you don't have any hunting partners.

Humor is one thing, 7mag. But nobody here knows you, and you're throwing around some pretty foolish-sounding comments.

Keep in mind that in cyberspace, no one can see you grin. Even using smileys doesn't guarantee that folks are going to know when you're "joshing" or when you're trying to start something.

It's best to get to know folks a little, before you try to dazzle them with your brilliant sense of humor.

Shot, I agree with you on the eating part. He kind of scared me for a second. I thought I was going to have to pick the kids up and rush the whole family off to the hospital to make sure were all ok.
