Don't you love it when someone comes onto a privately owned forum and says it's a "free country" so they can say whatever they want.

Man I wish I didn't have to go to the airport to pick up a friend. I'm gonna miss all the action on this one.
<

7mag. Yea. We all know what freedom of speech is, but the difference is this is a privately owned forum, so we do what the owner of the site wants or we don't stick around. The owner asks that we start no flame wars. Keep it up and you'll see what I mean about sticking around.

In context, THAT is the absolute funniest thing I've read on the JHO forums... I'm dying here... good thing it's before 5:00pm and I didn't have a mouthful of beer when I read that!

Way to go Sierra!

Must be deer season is over....Hey!!!! Quail, wabbits, hogs are still open......I am just glad not everybody likes wild pork, otherwise the cost of a guided hog hunt will go through the roof. Isn't that a blessing that many folks don't really care for it.
Wow, their loss is our gain.....Wonnnerful!!!! Reminds me to plan another Texas hog hunt 'cause I am addicted to wild pork. Oh!!! assembly line hogs are fed antibiotics, hormones(to gain weight quickly) & are laden with globs of artery clogging fat(cholesterol). Mmmmmnnnnn!!! I love to cook wild pork & eat it myself.
Is it expensive....you bet!! Hey....a set of golf clubs, tennis rackets, balls......dude!!!
They're not cheap either.....Well!! I give up.....but I am addicted to the smell of gunsmoke, gun oil, gun leather, sweat stained camo, thick odor of mud in the boots, the perfume of grassy hills & oaks, the adrenaline of the chase & the excitement of gunfire on running game...........I say, this is not for everybody, but for folks who are into it for enjoyment & inspiration. 'Nuff said. larrysogla.

SierraExplorer: Thank you, finally someone can understand me, I'm sure everybody here is good people, and some of you have a sense of humor like yourself, but others can't stand
the new guy, I hope no one has been offended by my topics, but they take a shot at me
and they want me to shut up, doe's not right, all my coments are open to everyone, and
since I wrote my first post they do nothing but complaint and cry, and if they read my topic
it saids "Hunter partner Wanted in public land ", only a few respond to the ad, the rest only trying to make a huge controversy, I don't know if all of this is comming from private ranches/guides
and they hate the idea of mentioning hunting public lands in this forum, I just don't know,
anyone is on his/her right to use their money anyway the want to, I never said that private hunting was a bad thing, I only said that's too expensive, and I'M sure I'm not the only one
who thinks the same way I do ,or you can see for yourself how many hunters are complainting
of the higher prices at the Tejon Ranch.

I can see that everyone knows everyone in this forum' and if a new guy disagree with the
topics, they blast him.

PS: One more thing this a not a private forum, anyone can log in, if the owner has a reason
to shut me off so be it, and I don't see any reason why, I read the rules

7maghunter,
Nothing personal in here, just plain folks laying out that in California, the most populous state in the union(35 million folks), with millions of acres in desert scrub(no hogs) & gobs of state parks(no hunting), urban sprawl(no hunting either) & only the Los Padres Nat. Forest the large public land with hogs(San Bernardino N. F. has only a tiny hog population) in the Southern California area(where the millions & millions of population is concentrated(unfortunately), it is very obvious that public land hunting is squeezed into a tiny portion of public land with target shooters, hikers, dirt bikers, weekenders, campers, sightseers, picnickers, etc. all thrown into the same general area, you can see that I have gone hog hunting on public land for over 16 years of my very precious years without even seeing a hog.
It is that hard. We mean no offense but the gas bill, wear & tear on my pick up truck & miscellaneous expenses added up to much more than a guided hunt if I took that up iin the first place. But hey I had a good exercise, hike & nature commune. It was not wasted time & money for that reason. So I will not discourage you from a public land hunt, just not to expect to see a hog at the next hill(unless lucky as luck you are that they wander into your spot). It is
<
good that people are still interested in public land hog hunts, it should not be discouraged or pushed out. It is great exercise & any time spent on the hills is a good time. Have a good & swell time. God Bless. larrysogla.

I don't recall people jumping on you for being the new guy. We all were new guys at one point here on the forum. Some folks took issue with what you said and some took issue with the way you said it. You have your right to an opinion but I don't see the sense in coming into the forum and in your first 5 posts trying to convince us it's rediculouse to pay $400+ to hunt pigs and that that you wouldn't even feed them to your family due to disease and parisites.

Lets stroll back in time to a few of your quotes:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
and those are thropies, not a #100 size pig you hunt in Ca[/b]
There are plenty of big pigs in CA to hunt. So I can see people chiming in to rebut this one.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
but for me a pig hunt is the same value like a coyote, rabbit, bobcat there are out there[/b]
That's great that your opinion of pigs is that they are basically vermin. Plenty of us see them as just as much fun, or more fun, to hunt as deer and just as good table fare as well.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Lets say you pay $ 400-500 + to kill a one pig, ok, now you gonna put that sucker in the freez, adding gas, expensive these days!, and cutting meat work, package it, keep the pig in ice for a couple of days or more, drive 5+ hours back home and taking the risk it may spoil in the way, or you just got a sick pig that you planning to eat an your family, kids, etc.[/b]
Well for many of us the butchering packaging, the drive etc are all part of the experience that we enjoy. I like butching game it's the final part of the process, well before eating that is. So, I can see people chiming in to disagree on this point too. I don't agree with your statement of taking the risk it will spoil on the drive home. How do you get your deer home? I know I always have a plan to get it home safe and sound. I have yet to have an animal spoil on a 5 hour drive while it is in ice !!!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
yeah but this wild pig it's a lot better taste and blaa blaa, don't forget the worms, trichinosis, brucellosis, etc"[/b]
So you don't agree with us that they taste better, that's your choice. What is the sense in the "blah blah" part, just to take shots at people???

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
you talked likeif you're a mountain man living in the mountains and you have to fish and hunt to survive,[/b]
This rebuttal was from Arrowslinger saying "i enjoy the woods, hunting, and learning from great guides.". I don't see any hostility from him but I sure do from you.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Woooow!!! you're a very agressive dude. Ohh I see San Fransisco ? reminds me a music group and a song that saids: Macho macho man I want be a M.........[/b]
This was prompted by me telling you "fine don't hunt pigs" and that your first 4 posts were basically all the same, bashing the idea of paying to pig hunt. And I'm the agressive dude. I didn't take a shot at you personally, nothing in my post was ment to be, as you seem to have an issue with, "macho"

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
someone is always trying to pull that macho tough guy crap, lets be all forum friend and enjoy yourself. Peace[/b]
Another shot at someone trying to be "macho" just for saying maybe you should lay low a bit and not insult everyone who posts up.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
I can see that everyone knows everyone in this forum' and if a new guy disagree with the topics, they blast him.[/b]
People were disagreeing with some of your statements not blasting you. When you come in swinging you gotta expect to get some back and even then most of the personal attacks came from your posts.

No one here is expecting you to "kiss anyones arse" but showing a little respect for people is generally expected. Sure we will disagree on the site, happens all the time, that's half the fun of hanging out and BS and learning from folks. Do what you want, no differnce to me, but slinging insults generally isn't a way to accomplish the goal of your first post.

Welcome to the site and I hope you fit right it. You'll find that most of us have a really good sense of humor and can take quite a few jabs especially if we have even a hint of who they are coming from.

7mag,

Don't get the wrong idea about JHO. Your getting these comments said about your post not because your new, but simply because of what you stated. Sure you can state whatever you want (withing the JHO rules that is). Everyone here can post there opinions on almost anything. But don't post in a way that sounds like your way is the right (or best), especially when there are people who do the opposite. Instead, you could of said something along the lines, "Why do people hunt on private land, its too expensive, mind filing me in." But instead you put down all the hunters here who hunt on private lands. I for one don't, and I agree with you that they are pricey, but I don't knock on people who do. I guess what I am trying to say is, I understand what you meant with your post only after you kind of explained yourself.

7mag,

I think what caused this instead of just saying you were looking for a partner to do some public land hunting, you kind of turned it into slam the guides just a little bit. I don't go on guided hunts because for every one guided hunt, I can go on 3 do it yourself hunts. But there are pros and cons to that, I generally will go empty handed more, but my reasoning is I like the variety of the expieriences and I can't afford to fill up all my time off with guided hunts. Now the fact that I can't afford to go on guided hunts all the time is MY fault, NOT the GUIDES. And their is nothing wrong with guided hunts, after all you still have to get the game yourself, and really isn't that much different than going on a trip with a freind who is taking you to there spot.

And yes it is a free country, but just because you can say something, doesn't mean you should. After all, weren't you looking for a hunting partner? It might be easier to find one if you chilled a little. Concentrate more on what you want to do, rather then what you think others shouldn't do.

And as far as meat hunters go, they know if you figure all the costs, it's going to be more than store bought. When people say they are meat hunters, they mean they would rather come home with meat, than hold of for the big one and possibly come home empty handed. The hunting expierience and being outdoors is a big part for any hunter, meat or trophy hunters both.

And just to let you know, I am still somewhat of a newbie here, but some of the guys that you are arguing with are good guys, been on this sight awhile, they know a lot and better of served as friends rather then enemies.

good luck and happy hunting
