7magHunter,
I completely forgot about the 2 military bases that allow the public to hunt inside their bases. They are Camp Roberts and Fort Hunter Liggett. Inside these 2 bases, the most productive areas are the shotgun only areas. Check it out here on the menu regarding Calfornia Hunting or do a search on google. The military bases are your best bet for hog hunting. Good luck & God Bless. larrysogla.

WOW! No I don't think these are just all of the private land owners and hunters getting mad cause if I remember right I offered to take you out and I hunt on public land. 7mag it's nothing personnal dude, but your not on the same sheet of music as most of the people here and as you pointed out this is a free country so it really doesn't matter? I think you should maybe sit back for a while and read and then change your name and come back and try again.

Hey again nothing personnal just my

PIGDREAM,

I never said all hunters, I only recall a few private hunters or guides, who blasted me with
complainting post against my ideas of promoting free public pig hunting, cause doesn't
sound good for their business, my whole point was trying to find someone who want to take
a more chalenging way of hunting, and like you wrote, quote : I should change my name and
comeback with a new name, why? I'm not interested in any of the people who trash me,
they can have it their way I can care less, and if you feel the same way it's cool too.

Always get on the positive side of people. Life is too short & also just listen as majority of the time it is hot air or trash talk, but once in a while somebody will come up with very good information that is worth its weight in gold. Trust me, I do not put down or respond with a negative reply & it has paid of handsomely for me not only in avoiding useless aggravation arguing over pointlless things but it has led me to good investments(real estate), stocks, a very good job, a honey of a wife & peace in the house, at work, here at JHO & just everywhere I go. I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes, aching joints, bad back, arthritis etc. "cause I refuse stress. I am 56 yrs. old & life is as peaceful as you make it. Hunting over public/private land is so inconsequential I do not lose any sleep over it. If I bag a boar.....good, if I do not bag a boar.....good also. Hey, life goes on. God Bless. larrysogla.

Sierra explorer,

Thank you for asking, but I don't bow hunt, I don't even know how to!
I'm only a rifle hunter, and a home ammo reloader, I wish could enjoy a
private ranch hunt, but it's hard for me to accept the $400 + quote they
want, see i'm not rich but woudn't be happy with the idea, for mule deer
or elk i can pay that $ and more, and I am aware that a pig hunt in private
ranches are not cheap, the quotes range from $400 and up some want
xtra money if you kill one, others for trophies, so I said to my self the
most $ i will pay for a pig hunt is $200, I know many of you may say
good luck, ok, but that's my budget, besides never hunted pig before.

I will like to find out if we can get a large group of hunters, that way
we may get a better deal with the outffiters?, I dont know if it's possible?
and what's the best deal out there ?

PS: Vegas it's a dangerous place to take your money, they always win,
look how nice and fancy are the casinos, someone got to pay for that.
I'm a casino expert I lived 7 yrs in Lake Tahoe, they got my money
and one time I sold my 2 nice rifles to keep gambling

You can get into achery bare bones and out the door for everything you need for $400-600. Seriously. And on top of that once you get to fling an arrow- you will desire to do it more and more often.
<

Add ON TOP of that- that that you can deer/bear hunt EARLIER than most of the FREE Public land while most others are just scouting.

Also there are special feilds on the Army bases that are Archery Only-....
<

Look into the archery threads here on this site - and others post outside of JHO for 2and class info like PSE/Mathews/Hoyt...ect..
<
There are many a PRO staff here that are more than wiling to help you in your journey- in2blacktail I have met personally (and more) and he will bend over backwards (along with the others) to get you once bitten- never cured.

PS- you have a chance at 2 pigs at choppers for the $400- add into that the DFG price of $15 a tag and you are now pushing $430.
<
The extra $30 is almost the price of a Costco bottle of Crown that would be the perfect tip for Chopper and his Crew <handshakes are free> that wil try there hardest to get you in and on the hunt.

Hey SierraExplorer,

the 2 pig deal sounds very interested, now I'm gonna have to tell you, there is
no way for me to get in the bow and arrow thing, is not for me, I can maybe try
muzzleloading, wooow, and that's new for me to, I'm always used to reload from
the back
<
is like so many other things, xample fishing rod & reel?, ok
but don't ask me about diving spear fishing, in that area I'm a
<
.
You know I always respected archery hunting, but I never got that interested in it
is like shotgun hunting, I don't like it either, no bird hunting for me, no thanks !!

Visalia ca, ?, and what's the deal with 2 pigs- $400 ?, what are the dates, who to

You kill em and tag them- there yours to take home iced down.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>

Chopper at this webpage on the Contact email- http://www.birdsandboars.com/
and the dates are all within this thread- If you desire to get on a wating list sign up now or ASAP. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/index....showtopic=74091

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>

Chopper has a MASSION- only those that have been there are sworn by "games blood" to keep it under oath and in their hearts as a memory to last a lifetime.
<
You bring the/your food you wish to eat for the days you wish to eat yourself or share as others will share openly with you. The same goes for the drinks- We all are Bro's and my cooler is open to anyone as long as I can raid theres also. (except BDB- he drinks MGD
<
) . The dates are posted in this thread- but you will read that Chopper has ""More than Generously" opened another 2 days prior to the hunt dates for this foirst crew that are "going in" <Cheers Chopper
<

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
do they help with the cleaning ?,[/b]

Do you get cleaning by someone else on public land ? You killed it- you get the Honor of playing with your kill.
<
<
Chopper has a cooler to hang, handle and cool your meet till you pack it out on your way home.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
do they guarantee 2 pigs ?,[/b]
As long as you kill them- there yours for the taking- and if wounded a pig- he has the dogs to help track them down and send you in with your own bow/arrow ( or BDB and Arrowslingers way
<
) If you miss out - you will have one very dissapointed dog
<
.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
I know to many questions!  but like I said it before I'm a newbie[/b]

Then no BETTER place than here! pull up a chair- be sincere and polite and you will ALWAYS be treated the same.
<

BTW- Choppers place is Archery Only for Pigs and (I think- but could be corrected) Turkeys- Quail is by shotgun and I believe the deer is either Archery or Rifle if you desire.

Also Bubba killed a GREAT turkey last month at Choppers via Archery- here is the link- http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/index....showtopic=76379

Cheers Bubba!
<

And I have some pic's of Choppers on this link- http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/index....showtopic=75906

Take care Bro and have fun!

Choppers is archery only(bow & arrow, no crossbows). Try Fort Hunter Ligget(mail in ONLY!! $25/weekend hunt permit or $75/annual hunt permit) & if available, pick area 29 & ask John(a real nice guy) at the permit office the best spot in area 29 & mark it on the map for you. If the acorns are falling there will be pigs in the spot he will mark for you. You must be the first one to arrive at that hotspot or the locals will beat you to it. At the first sound of gunfire, the pigs will head for the hills & across the nearby fence & onto private property & will be out of reach. Area 29 is shotgun/slugs only. Check the F. H. Liggett info here on this JHO 'site under State hunting, then California hunting or Google will search/find it for you. Hope you don't get discouraged by coming home empty handed so many times. The locals have it all figured out at all these military bases, but it is even so our best bet in public land hog hunting. You will find out that only the addicted stay the course in public land hog hunting and I am one of them. Nuts really. God Bless. larrysogla.

Q :

Why is Chopper archery only ?, it's because of cattle on the land ?
or are houses near by ?.

Can you hunt with muzzleloading in areas where's shotgun only ?

How good is Camp roberts, ?, is rifle ok there ?.

7mag,

Not to start something back up, but I appreciate the moderation in your tone lately. I can certainly understand and appreciate your position on guides and pay-to-play, and even accept the curmudgeonly aspect of your "take me as I am, thorns and all" stance. But I think you'll be finding a lot more acceptance and comeraderie here through this gentler disposition.

That said.. on to your questions.

Chopper is the best one to explain his archery-only requirement, but as he explained to me, it's mostly that he's not interested in dealing with too many unknown hunters carrying powerful firearms. As a guide/outfitter, you find yourself looking down too many carelessly handled muzzles, and I understand that he doesn't want to do that any more.

In most state-designated shotgun only areas, no muzzle loaders or handguns are permitted. With the state-of-the art advances in shotgun slugs and barrels, I personally think this restriction is kinda pointless, but that's the law.

In other places, like Camp Roberts, you can use muzzleloaders, shotguns, or archery in the restricted areas. Still no handguns (I asked about using my .44 mag).

Camp Roberts isn't bad, but the best areas can get a lot of pressure. There are a lot of hogs there if you can find them. The Camp has areas that allow all legal means of take, and other areas designated for shotgun/muzzleloader/archery only. There's a map at the check-in, and you'd do well to review it carefully, since the areas aren't necessarily marked in the field.

From my limited experience there, I'd say that Camp Roberts offers some of the easiest and most accessible hog hunting of any public land. Fort Hunter Liggett has a reputation for some good hunting too, but the terrain is much more challenging. I don't know the true statistics, but I'd say odds of success are probably equal between the two, and both are arguably the best odds of success on public land that you'll find.

Ok guys I am kinda new here. I dont post much, but read and watch alot I realy like this site and there is alot to learn here. I think I learned alot from this post. Every time I have posted I have got good post back so I think the new guy thing is out the window. I would like to say welcome 7mm. It just seams that you want everyone to like or want what you do. If you cant aford a private ranch hunt then dont go if it is bow only and you only hunt gun then dont change. A nice vacation in an island resort is very $$$$$ to why dont you go ask them about why that is and that you cant aford that also. Not to be a butthead but not everyone can aford everything they want to do sorry that is just the way it is. I think I understand where you were going with this post at first and it got out of control. But lets not attack everyone. Lashing out after someone has said something isant the right thing to do if you agree or not. welcome to jho and I hope this will start a new leaf. thanks , Buck

what are you talking about ?, if you don't know what to say, just keep reading only!
how do you know what I can't aford it ?, you know my bank status/job etc, ? cause I said
don't want to waste that much money on a pig that doesn't mean I can't aford it.
Sorry, I didn't know that this forum is for the rich Beverly Hills !!

You want to talk about hunting ideas ?, I'm here to read it, but if you just like
to pick on someone for the only reason, that you got nothing better to do, don't
expect me to be nice and laugh about it, you started criticism with a BS welcome to
JHO at the end!, that's not the way to be welcome right ?
