How do I get started? Where are places close to home (central valley, north) I can go coyote hunting? Is there a local rod & gun I can join?
How can I meet up with coyote hunters in my area or at least within a five-hour drive?

U can start by going out to the country side and ask the ranchers for permission to shot yotes for them....but if your hunting yotes....go ahead and do some grnd squirrel control too....just pick up after yourself and dont shoot ranchers live stock....lol

Never hurts to ask....they can only say no or yes....good luck

Oh yea...welcome to the forum...

Thanks, wolf: actually, I shot ground squirrels on a NorCal rancher's spread some 15 years ago. He expressly wanted the killed animals to stay put for the buzzards or predators who might otherwise molest his cows or deer herd. I would ask the landowner, farmer or rancher if they want the killed animals cleaned up. I don't want to keep dead varmints anyway. How might one conveniently dispose of any dead animals they must clean up from the hunted land? Are there any public places in California to hunt yotes or other varmints? How about the desert areas?

Desert/Forest/Lowlands you should have no problem finding them in your local forest, just check your shooting/discharge areas in the NF, before heading out. And welcome Vernon1964.
