Hi all. I am new to this group. I live in South Dakota and am addicted to elk hunting. I don't like to be guided, as I like to do my own thing while hunting. I usually hunt Colorado and we guide/pack our horses and have a great elk hunt. I wanted to try a new area and have an "Idaho Middle Fork B' tag which is a rifle hunt during the rut in units 20a, 26, or 27 between Challis / Salmon and McCall. The first year in a new area like this, I don't want to bring our horses.
I would like to know any information on how to hunt this area and what unit would give us our best success. We are right now planning on flying into the wilderness. Is this the best way?
Has anyone taken a jet boat up the Salmon River into the wilderness?
Any information or insight would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
