Gentlemen, I was under the impression these forums were for sharing information, experiences, 'Positive Ideas', and helping the novice in the right direction.
Now I may be guilty of getting in a pissing match before, so I can speak with some authority on this...There are no winners. This is not limited to the people directly involved, but to all of us that have to read thru this crap.
I wish not and will not be drawn into to who is right or wrong, but why don't you fellows use some of that online bravery, go meet some place and hash it out in private and keep the results to yourselves.
This is just my opinion.

dblsmk, Words of wisdom and an excellent reminder. Most of us are here to promote the sport of hunting and help the new folks. I didn't start out as an expert, this is my 52nd season and I still don't know all the answers. I do know that the learning curve would have been a lot straighter up had this forum been around 1963 when I first started hunting. I also know that over the last 13 yrs. this forum has been a place to ask questions, bounce a few ideas off of folks and find better solutions to hunting challenges. It would probably benefit us all if we keep the focus headed in that direction.

Those dry barren looking fields can often be money the morning of the opener. My advise is to look for a spot between orchards and water / fields. Also, it will be a zoo in the morning. People will crowd you and some of them are just plain dangerous. Also, the person that hasnt hit a bird all morning will start claiming your birds. Dont try to fight stupid people, just move on. There are typically so many birds that you shouldnt have too much trouble getting a limit. I will be hunting with my son this year and I dont think we will be going down there because the chance of a negative experience is too high.

They really haven't done much with those fields in the last 3 years or so. That was the last time I saw fresh crops in them. Really sad imho, seems those fields don't receive much funding. Plus you have wounded warrior foundation taking up half the dang fields. I don't have a problem I am so grateful but they take nearly have fields. Last year they had 2 fields marked in the map as designated for them, but they also marked off others. Also I have yet to see one of these guys or at least a report and some pics of smiling vets. Hopefully the fields furthest south that were closed last year reopen, they hold the most birds on average.

I have scouted a lot of the DWU fields over the last 2 summers. Some of the fields have been planted, but most not. The fields have been on a downhill slide for the past few years. Good program when it was in full swing, but always crowded. I prefer shooting at less crowded area. Those fields may be holding a few birds but you will have a fair bit of competition.

The fields have gone dry due to the lack of available water over the years.... They can be very productive but you will not be alone....Good luck and be safe....

I decided last season to pick up my shotgun again, after 25 years, for some exercise. I had no idea where to start for dove season. I did some scouting in the I.V., which turned out to be a waste of time. Since I have limited time due to professional and family commitments, I turned to the internet and found Woodland's Hunt Club. Mendel Woodland is a great guy and will get you on the birds for dove season. We hunted dove with Mendel four times last season and limited each time. We also hunted pheasant four or five times and had a blast. Twice we hunted both in the same day! Sure, you can go try to find your own So. Cal. birds if you have the time, but if you like to come home with something in the game bag try hunting with Mendel. What you will spend on the Hunt Club you will save in fuel and time. Plus he can supply a dog and handler if needed. I can't wait for the 1st!
