Hey guys,

Just thought I'd pop another note in about the JHO Ham Slam coming up in June. It's been kinda quiet, but with all this action going on at Choppers, maybe some of you rifle hunters are starting to think about where you'll go for a hog this year.

Lots of information is available in the events forum.

$400 for two and a half days of unguided hunting on some of the prettiest land in CA. I believe last year we went 18 or 19 hogs for 50 hunters, which isn't too bad at all.

Anyway, figured I've been too quiet about this event, and wanted to toss it back on the fire.

It's not bad at all, Dukemaster. Come join us, and add another pig to your freezer.

I'm thinking of doing a guided hunt in May, but not real sure if I can swing the cost. My girlfriend quit her job so she can go to school for accounting, she just graduated

so it may be possible.

Speck. How many paid apps. do you have right now, and how many openings are left? I'll know more towards the middle to end of April, if there's still an opening, i'm in for a Ham Slam.

Mel, I've been trying to keep it current in the events forum, but in the interet of making sure everyone gets to see it...

Out of appx. 30 apps that I've sent out, I have 13 paid right now. That leaves 33 open slots.

If this goes like last year, there will be a run about a month before the deadline. However, it does seem to be filling up slower this time. I don't know if it's due to the price increase (from $300 to $400), too many guys already have paid hunt plans, or if it's just low interest. We'll hold the event regardless.

I need to verify with Barbara, but I believe the cutoff for apps will be May 21, two weeks before the hunt. At that point, we go with whoever's paid up. If there are still open slots, they stay open.

Do you need our pig tag just to confirm we have one or is there some other reason? Can we just fill it out and send you a photocopy of both sides? Less handling means less chance of losing it.

Tejon requires the hard copy, you'll get it back when you check in with a cool Tejon stamp on it.

what if we don't bag a hog and wish to use the tag at a different place. Will the tag still be good?

Speck,

I never received my app. Could be because of the move. Did you send me out one?

Joe,

If the app doesn't show in the next couple of days, let me know. They went out mid-week last week, and I did use your new address.

Dukemaster, Tejon needs the actual tag. I know it kind of sucks now that you can only buy one tag at a time, but if you'll be hunting in the meantime, you'll need to get another.

I'll have to check about reusing the tag if you don't fill it at Tejon. That's never really been an issue before, again because everyone always had five tags and few of us missed the one. But I'd imagine you could reuse it.

Still, put in the boot leather and some woodsmanship, and you'll fill that tag at Tejon. However, Rancho will be doing the dragging... it's part of the PT on his new knee.

I have two un-filled app requests right now. Karstic and one other (that I can't see because I can't get into my "real" computer. Please be patient, and I'll get them to you in plenty of time.

By the way, I just verified with Barbara and the applications MUST be in my hands by 05/21. Do NOT send to Tejon, and you cannot get apps for this hunt from Tejon. If you requested an app more than two weeks ago, and it hasn't arrived by Tuesday of next week, drop me a line and I'll see where they went.

Phil,
That 13.00 insurance we got to pay is like 4 blocks from my house. I wonder if I can just go there and pay him? I can't wait to go on this hunt.

Dukemaster,

I appreciate your trying to help out, but it will really make things go smoother if you'll just go with the instructions. There have been problems in the past coordinating with Boggs, and this is why we want all the apps and checks turned into the same place.

Jesse... we don't need no stinking carp. Come on out and chase a hog with us!

Scott... where would I be without my hog-dragging help? Besides, I actually sent you two apps so I can make sure and pay back at least one of the drags I owe you!

Russ... plenty of spaces available at this point. I think I have 13 paid apps right now. May have just received #14, but I haven't opened the mail yet.

Come one come all.. and let's get some hogs!

Wondering if you got my completed app o.k. This is my first time going after the hogs, so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

do we need to bring a gimbrel or is there something we can use to hang the hogs for skinning?

There's a rack there at the camping "area" for hoisting the piggies. There's usually alot of gambrels and rope on hand if you need to borrow one.
