Hey guys,
So, Barbara finally had a little time to follow up with me regarding the hunting schedules for next year. As has been mentioned, Tejon is taking over Don Smith's archery-only hunts, and will be booking them beginning in February (I think). I have no doubt I can find a dozen archers from JHO to book the archery area for a weekend.
My question to you guys is, first (I think this is a gimme)... how many of you would be interested in an archery-only hunt at Tejon? The cost looks to be around $400, plus insurance, and may include lodging and FOOD (still getting details on this part). If there's not much interest, I'm gonna suggest trying to get signed up for one of their regular archery hunts... but if it looks like we can fill the area, I'd like to do a JHO-only event.
Second question, especially those of you who've hunted the archery area before, how bad is it in the winter? Are the roads as treacherous? How about fog? If we booked in February, would most of us be road-bound? I've only hunted the South side, and as I repeat over and over, I have no desire to ever again try to hunt that zone in the foul weather. Too much chance of someone getting hurt or at least losing a vehicle.
Right now, and pending input from you hunters, I'm leaning toward doing this hunt back-to-back with the JHO POR in May, right after turkey season, but if the roads and conditions are good in winter, there's no reason not to do it earlier.
