BDB, Congratulations on your public land archery pig. Most people can't say they have achieved this goal. By the way, nice shot placement on that last shot!

I agree with ya on that. It's also another reason I will be aiming very low on every shot from now on. A lower shot and a pass through should have more blood hitting the ground as the body cavity wouldn't need as much filling up. Especially if the heart or a major artery to the heart is taken out![/b]

steve did the arrow pass through ????

Yeah, I don't think it even slowed down

Only thing it hit on both sides were ribs, no sholder blade or bones.

Hi BDB: Congrats on the pig! It was a pleasure meeting you there. I'm glad you could close the deal and bring home the bacon!

For the record, I'm the other hunter BDB ran into that afternoon. I had hunted from sunrise to about 3:00 PM and was heading out when BDB drove up. Amazing how friendly JHOer's are.

I had hiked down to the lake that morning and jumped 4 or 5 pigs in thick brush on a steep hill. The pigs looked as suprised as I was when we saw each other. I had put in quite a few miles that morning and I don't think that many people get down there. Suprisingly, the pigs just milled about nervously as I nocked an arrow. I was amazed how calm I was since this was the first time I 1)had ever seen a pig and 2)had ever taken a shot at a big game animal and 3)had ever used my bow in anger. Well, there was one thing I forgot - the downslope. I aimed center mass and the arrow flew right over the top of the pig. Off they ran along the hill with me stumbling along the top trying to get another shot. No luck. They stopped at one point about 40 yards down the slope from where I was panting. Out of range of my abilities. It was too steep to attempt a stealthy approach. They then took off parallel to the lake (the shore being about 100 yards below) and disappeared into really thick brush.

When I was telling BDB my tale, he nodded his head with a smile and said "Aim low whether it's uphill or downhill." I won't forget this lesson.

Once again congrats on the pig.

See you there next time.

Well, just finished my homework on Lake Sonoma and came to the conclusion that a weekend trip won't work unless I go out and buy that private jet I always wanted just for these such trips. Damb that's aways up there.

Another Canadian Heart Shot? I couldn't tell you how many hogs I've seen hit good and hard and left very little blood. You found him in the nick of time too. Awesome, simply awesome

PS- Super Duty, hop in that #12 car and leave at 2:00am, you'll be here in no time!
