Most of you probably don't know - I work for DFG... it's not something that I usually spread around... Too many hostile people out there... Anyways - I am not in any position to comment on this thread - and I have no pull in the Department. I am a Research Analyst - I primarily deal with Wildlife and Habitat data, map-making, databases, etc.
I spoke with a Senior Wildlife Biologist who is in charge of the Wild Pig Management program for DFG. I'm not posting his name or number, because I don't want people bombarding him with questions and complaints. But I asked him if he was aware of any of the "problems" regarding Lake Sonoma hunting... basically this thread in a nutshell... He claimed to be unaware of the situation. What I would like to do is to make him aware, so that he might help in retaining the hunt.
I will say this - I have no clue what the working relationship is with DFG and Army Corps of Engineers down there. I live and work in Redding... but I will say this, we as hunters, will not get very far by blasting the Army Corps about this carcass/sign/fence cutting/etc. We'll have to proceed as diplomatically as possible. What might be nice is a summary of the "situation", written by one of you who hunt the area regularly. Leave out all of the "personal opinions" - just include the facts as you know them... kind of a running record of the issue. We could all try to come to a consensus on the facts (from the hunter standpoint), and then I could at least submit them to some DFG contacts. At least we'll know that DFG has been made aware of the situation. Any volunteers for writing up a document? We could maybe start a sticky thread - so that we all could make suggested changes?
I really don't know if any of this would help - but it's a place to start... Any thoughts or comments?
