Most of you probably don't know - I work for DFG... it's not something that I usually spread around... Too many hostile people out there... Anyways - I am not in any position to comment on this thread - and I have no pull in the Department. I am a Research Analyst - I primarily deal with Wildlife and Habitat data, map-making, databases, etc.

I spoke with a Senior Wildlife Biologist who is in charge of the Wild Pig Management program for DFG. I'm not posting his name or number, because I don't want people bombarding him with questions and complaints. But I asked him if he was aware of any of the "problems" regarding Lake Sonoma hunting... basically this thread in a nutshell... He claimed to be unaware of the situation. What I would like to do is to make him aware, so that he might help in retaining the hunt.

I will say this - I have no clue what the working relationship is with DFG and Army Corps of Engineers down there. I live and work in Redding... but I will say this, we as hunters, will not get very far by blasting the Army Corps about this carcass/sign/fence cutting/etc. We'll have to proceed as diplomatically as possible. What might be nice is a summary of the "situation", written by one of you who hunt the area regularly. Leave out all of the "personal opinions" - just include the facts as you know them... kind of a running record of the issue. We could all try to come to a consensus on the facts (from the hunter standpoint), and then I could at least submit them to some DFG contacts. At least we'll know that DFG has been made aware of the situation. Any volunteers for writing up a document? We could maybe start a sticky thread - so that we all could make suggested changes?

I really don't know if any of this would help - but it's a place to start... Any thoughts or comments?

Somebody get a pic of that lil shrine they have erected.

84Toyota, we can be calm and well spoken. Let's at least find out why they are villifying bowhunters and what evidence they have. The carcass with an arrow in it smells like a setup.

Yeah, call me crazy, but I don't think I know a single archer who would leave their arrows lying in camp... that's a pretty expensive mistake... and come on - an arrow right next to the carcass? Smells like poo (or fish, or something stinky...)

No one said the arrow was in the pig gut pile. There is a sign about the gut pile and hide and there is an arrow there as well. I assume the arrow is the exclamation point on the sign. I know I have left 3 arrows there, but there was definitely no gut pile with those ones

I don't know if it's some kind of decorative ornament to add to the insult or one of the so called arrows retreived from the neighbors. Can't remember if it had a broadhead, might of.[/b]
Lets not get our facts turned all upside down hear.
Someone take a picture of that thing cuz I aint going back.

I spoke to the local warden a while back when Joel posted his report from the neighbors, and he wasn't aware of anything that Joel was talking about, but was going to look into it.He never got back to me.He did inform me however that he was well aware of the activities like poaching from the neighbors side of the fence onto lake property and it's gone on for as long as he can remember.
I'm pretty much done w/Lake Sonoma for the year mostlly because it's been over hunted, and will most likly never be the same as the first two years of the USACE hunts. It was a great opportunity and I'll never forget the great times I had there.Like I said before, the word spread too far about the hunt and the place got pounded.
I'm off to Tejon tomarrow and will return wed.
I'll let ya'll know what happened.(I'm lookin for BIG RED w/big teeth)

So where's the shrine for the litterers? The shrine for the Graffiti artists? The shrine for the drunken boaters? Can they demand equal representation?

Someone please get a pic of that. Next thing you know they have us bowhunters killing Arnold ZIffel hisself from Green Acres and eating the heart right in the parking lot with a fine Chianti.

Instead of forwarding your park manager dialog from an "open forum topic", which includes rants and raves from hunters on the issue of Lake Sonoma, why can't we send him the issues already pointed out in the previous post you started? Or maybe a letter that is a little more professional and that properly states the issues at hand?

Is the park managers email available for the public?

Ok, it would not be appropriate for me to give out the park mangers e-mail address. However, if you look at my post about 2007-2008 hunt’s you will see that he is ok with getting comments in writing.
Our address here is

Lake Sonoma
3333 Skaggs Springs Rd.
Geyserville, CA 95441

You may want to send any comments as Attn. Park Manager.

Or save your self the cost of the stamp and add your comment to the link I have started.

P.S. Rants and Raves are important and need to be voiced as well. No offence is taken. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the oil!

Joel, you haven't commented on the sign bashing bowhunters. I know I'm late here, but did I miss something????
