Boy howdy, here we go again...
The saying goes: If it is not your property, it probably belongs to someone else.
And if it's public land that's landlocked, it might as well be the same. So unless you have a helicopter(or parachute), it is untouchable.
One of the reasons, much of the right to pass access has been pulled, is because of the attitudes I hear being spouted by some on this post... Just because someone finds a little piece of BLM land that looks good from the road doesn't give them the right to tresspass to get to it. And that "screw em, they are just some rich folks" attitude can get you shot...

Ooja, do a seach on this site, as there is much information to be had. Jesse has put together some great info on permmission slips and ideas that you can use to gain legal access. Also check out Varmint Als site as well, it's on one of the many links here.
Good luck...

The vast majority of members here are very respectful of private property rights. The attitude of "7magHunter" is for the most part his only. He's new here, and has done his best to insult and irritate as many members as possible in his short time here.

ooja:
You didn't start any problems here. 7magHunter just has a way of turning a good thread bad.

Dang I am sorry all.  I didn't mean to cause a commotion.  For the record, I will respect the signs and fences.  I don't want trouble, I just want to shoot a small hog for the fun and the eating, and I don't feel I can get that on a guided hunt.  I am at an uncomfortable stage in my hunting skills, I am good at tracking, backpacking, know how to use a GPS well (I navigate the ocean all the time in my skiff with one), have National Forest, BLM, and 7 minute topo maps.  I know how to get to any point using my equipment.  I have backpacked for up to a week at a time in bear country.  However, I don't have a good place to go.

From reading all the posts on this board, I thought I just had to work harder and find a good spot.  I was just wondering what the deal is on the landlocked BLM land, I thought someone might tell me that I could get to these spots if they were BLM, I just hadn't found the way yet.  I learned that was not the case.  I will take a different route now, I will try to find some land that's holding that is very far back, with difficult trails that horses can't go on.  I won't worry about finding one that is reasonably close to the truck anymore.

Someone mentioned feeders.  I am in California.  I thought it was illegal to hunt over bait here.  What is the law on this?  Are hogs considered barnyard animals, and therefore outside of this baiting law?

Thank you for the information. I may post if I ever get any luck, or if I have more questions.

Ooja well done!!,

you buy a car, and no one sales gasoline!! LOL
and when you reserve a helicopter charter, make sure you tell them
if they got room for your horses
<

and when hunting don't step on the onions.

Did I miss that point? Everyone sells Gasoline- you just need to pay for it or syphon it out of the rightful owners tank.

Again I am missing the point?

Yes BIGTUSKER,

that's right, or parachute!!

Why would Chopper parashute to his own property when he OWNS the keys.

anyone should have the right to get access to Blm land, it doesn't matter if private land surrounds the area[/b]

Not that this will change any minds, but wildlife is publicly owned....landowners don't own it. If a deer mosies into my house from the park next door does that give you the right to tresspass into my apartment or house to get it?

Anyway, like or not, the law's the law. For those who can't take US tresspass laws, there's always China...it's all publicly owned ground there--or so I'm told.
<

I won't get into easements, 'cause it just isn't worth the effort given how this all has digressed.

Break the law and you take your chances. Caught on my property without permission and you'll likely get a visit from the authorities....that would hold for Mother Theresa too.

Bishop,
I realise that "most people" are respectful and show good judgement when faced with the temptation to cross that barbed wire fence to get to the holy grail... I get a little ticked off when the chatter is so quick to judge and condemn others. We all would love to have access to the mother load ranch and all the game roaming there for just us and no one else.
But, we all, especially those like me who hail from Kalifornia "the land of fruits and nuts", need to be especailly careful about how we are perceived. And do a better job of being our sports diplomats. Or else we may find more and more locked gates. Mostly because of the actions and words by a small few who would be seen as representing all of us...

Ooja, you were only asking a question and weren't stating any problems. All the answers you seek can all be found right here on JHO.

Also after your certification of 5 jumps , schooling, private pain charter, equipment- you are either taking a bot close to $3k or out of your arse again.

I'd suggest starting off by offering to shoot ground squirrels on the owners land, and then work up a relationship.

Any more, landowners are starting to fetch 100-150/day for prime ground squirrelin' in CA....blows my mind.

From KittlesOutdoors:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Dove, Hog, Varmint: Guided hunts on a beautiful 6,000 acre coast range ranch are available this year. Dove hunts for the opening week (Monday, September 1st through Saturday September, 6th) are $100.00/day. There after the rate is $50/day.

Guided hog hunts are $150.00 for the trespass fee, and $250.00 for a harvest.

Varmint (squirrel, coyote) shoots are $150.00/day.[/b]

One way to get around landlocked BLM lands issues, is to charter a helicopter...but, that gets spendy in a big hurry....although there is an outfitter that is or was doing just that very succesfully from the sounds of it.

About 5 or 6 years ago I was actually looking into chartering helicopter flights into/out of hog areas....at the time, it was about the same as outfitter prices--in the $250 range for hogs. Now, I think you could charter a helicopter flight with a group of guys for much less than the current charge for huntin' hogs @ places like Tejon, etc.[/b][/quote]
C'mon you don't make any sense!!

you would pay a helicopter charter to hunt pigs????????????????
what's next ?? a submarine to go fishing????????????????????
some people are very easy to rip off!!!

At least no one has owners rights in the Sea- outside of the 3 mile range. There may be hogs there for sure open to the public.

I believe it is time to pull the plug on this thread & let it die it's own natural course. It is the only decent thing to do. After this I am not posting on this thread anymore. 'Nuff said. larrysogla.

Don't sweat it ooja... you didn't cause the uproar... 7mag did, again, and I'm suggesting that actions be taken to ensure it's the last time he does... it's obvious he's trolling and gets a kick out of stirring the pot and being a general ass. It's one thing to express your feelings strongly, even when they deviate from accepted norms, but unwarranted and repeated personal attacks ain't welcome here.
