Wow! My guide and hunting partner collected over 300 pics this time in AZ's 6A. There were more, but 300 he liked and kept. The camera's have been out since april and this is the most activity we've seen on them. I selected the below for your enjoyment. I really like the last one.

One more check and we'll need to decide on where to hunt, it'll be a tough call.

Notice the whitetail deer, very rare for that part of the country and a bruiser to boot.

I sure hope one of these elk shows up during my hunt...oh boy, oh boy:smiley-mouse:

I love Elk and trail cam pics. Wish I had been able to go to Oregon this year.

Looking at the deer pic I would say its a mule deer, look along the left side of the post you can see the black tip on the end of the white tail, whitetails tails are brown all the way to the tip.

I believe your right, must of have got 'em mixed up. There were so many pics. We normally get a few forest antelope in the cameras as well, but not this time.

I see two different deer... One White Tail for sure... 9/15 4:39pm on cam: 3, and then I see what looks like a Mule deer on 10/1 8:43am cam: Chuck 6. I love that pic as well of the two rag horns scuffling right next to the camera, with some bigger boys hooking up in the background! Great shot!

What are the odds of that happening right in front of the camera? The elk seem to love trail cams....they ripped one off the tree and did alot of damage to the IR flash and display. Another they tore of the tree and it looked like they played toss with it. Chuck said it was about 20 ft from the tree.

It's a 7 hour drive for me....now my partner's 1 1/2 hours down the road. It's grand to have friends!

The elk are dinks by AZ standards but that is a GIANT Coues deer buck in picture number 4!!! You might want to buy a deer tag this year! The buck in pic 7 is a small mule deer.

Hey Andy, I thought about it but we've had 8 cameras out since April and those are the only 2 bucks we got on film.

As for Dinks, I'd be happy with to see number 8 in the cross hairs, LOL. He looks like he's on a mission.

Is there a cut off line in arizona dividing the north from the south on what would be a Coues or just a whitetail or in arizona all whitetails considerd coues.

Awesome !!! Can't wait - it's getting close. Nice trail cam pics. Helped my dad out in Unit 9 this past weekend 4 days and did not even see an elk out in daylight hours. Day time temps were between 75 and 80 degrees. Passed through 6A on my way home and saw some good sign and some cows along the road. Will be up there this weekend. I will let you know what I see.

Dan just shoot whatever makes you happy! There are some giants in AZ though, 6A included. Whitetail in that unit would still be considered Coues deer. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Mule deer and Coues whitetail are the only deer species recognized in AZ. I can't think of a corner in that state where whitetail (non Coues) would be. Good luck out there!

Thanks Andy. It's my third elk hunt but my first bull hunt. Even though spikes are legal there, it'd be a shame to pop one, especially after seeing the pics. I'm after a decent rack with some body size to it. Afterall, this'll be most of my meat for the next year. It's a rare day when we buy beef anymore.

I'd love to nail a 6x7 but I'll not risk my meat supply for bragging rights, LOL. Then there's the inevitable problem of where to put the mount in my little house....

Alot can happen between now and turkey day. I just hope they're some of them still hanging around by then :)

Every other time I've had close encounters with bull elk, I've had a cow tag in the pocket. This time I'm ready! Regardless, it'll be an adventure. Any day hunting beats any other day doing....just about everything.
