Leica Binocular Range Finders

I'm thinking of spending the bucks for the Leica Range Finder Binoculars and can't decide whether to buy the 10X42 or the 8X56. Any recommendations?

Is weight a factor? What's the difference in weight between the two? What's more important; light gathering or weight? What type of hunting will you do with it? If there are really heavy and cumbersome, they will spend little time in the field. I hunt and my biggest battle is being weighed down with STUFF. I miss the days when I hit the field with a gun, ammo and knife. Now I have all kinds of STUFF.

The hunting that I do, I would pick the lighter of the two so I could also take it when hunting ground hogs as well as deer. I don't use my rangfinder for deer because I don't need to fooling around with it when I should be shouldering my rifle. I don't use a scope with an adjustable objective when deer hunting for the same reason.

I have and prefer my binoculars separate from my rangefinders. The binoculars are a compact set of 10X42 Leupold WindRivers, which I wear on a harness, on my chest. The rangefinders are a set of Leica 1200s I wear on my belt on my side. I only use the rangefinders when I'm setting up on the ground before dawn and dusk to rangefind the terrain to get a good idea about the range if a deer appears. There usually is time to use them when finding grazing pigs. I use my binoculars much more than the rangefinder and a good lightweight set is very important.

My thoughts were it would be best to have all-in-one so I wouldn't have to carry two separate items. I know the Leica is expensive but they are a quality item.

I didn't realize the 8x had a 56mm objective. I'll trust that you've read correctly.

Anyway, that's probably the route I'd go. The 10x would be fine too, but you don't gain that much except more visible shake.

I have the Bushnell rangefinding binocular, and I've become quite enamoured of it, especially for bowhunting. Occasionally, I'd like a little better glass for rifle hunting, since I do a lot more glassing at longer ranges.

The Leica is leaps and bounds better than the Bushnell, and while it is a lot of money, it's an excellent unit. The rangefinder functions are way better, and the glass is a world apart in quality. The display is also a lot better, especially for doing more glassing. If you have it to spend, then don't even bother to look back.

I bought a Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42 for 249.00 total price.

Doug is a good source for those binos. I have owned a pair of the 10x42 BRF for two years now. UNREAL glass and rangefinder......the best of both worlds.....you won't be disappointed, IMO.
