I drew the archery buck in the likely tables, I read what ranchwife had said about hunting above Big Sage res. to the Or. border , just thought maybe someone had done this hunt before and had some details.
there are goats up there in that area and there is more cover there than down on the Tables. My dad and I drew tags for Zone 3 three years ago. I got mine down on the "tables" below Alturas. Dad got his up on the Devil's Garden area between Big Sage Reservoir and Goose lake. Saw more goats down on the Tables but again the country there is more open. I did notice there that some of the goats went by a fairly predictable pattern. Since archery is the first season they may stay in that pattern better than the rifle season. Do they do the Antelope Pre-hunt talk still? If they do I would advise you go to that as they have maps with the areas the antelope are usually in circled. Keep in mind that country is ROUGH! A good four wheel drive is recommended and you won't be driving very fast at all. I would recommend you spend at least a week-end scouting. E-mail me if you want. I'll tell you exactly where we hunted.

Nextrodeo - Congratulations on the draw! I talked to my husband about who to talk to for help in locating antelope on the gardnen - we don't help with bow hunters - only rifle. He suggested that you talk to a guy by the name of Leo Kennedy (in Alturas). If you can't contact him, I would call the Belligerent Duck (530-233-4696) in Alturas and ask them who can help you.
My husband also suggested that you locate a flat that has a range fence around it and set up a watch there. I would try the following areas - Greensprings Reservior, Telephone Flat, the east side of Big Sage Reservoir, Meteorite Flat, Fletcher creek off South Main road. To pin point these exact areas, I suggest going into the Modoc National Forest Supervisors Office in Alturas and asking for a map and then have someone point out these spots. Hopefully this gives you some ideas!! Good Luck!!
