Molokai is part of Maui County. They have public land there and all you need is a rental car and shotgun. Check out the bird regs for Hawaii and they have maps showing public hunting lands for all the islands.

MJB, last year when my dad went to the islands Rodney helped him out also. He took him out hunting and they had a great time. Super nice guy, you'll have a blast.

Rodney, How have you been? Hope life is treating you good. My dad says hello, and thanks again.

Forget what I said about west maui mountains past the tunnel.
I checked the regs and that unit is only for biggame. No bird hunting there.

Thanks to everyone for your help!
I went up to the state park about 10am due to diving the day before. I start to walk the hiking trails and right away their were tracks and lots of rooting right on the trail. I get to the end and find a cave with some water and a great view of the north shore. I start to walk back and I hear some sticks break I look up the hill and I see a small 40lbs about 30 yards away I notice the pig is lifting it's nose in the air I draw back hopping there is another pig that will show it self once I'm winded. The pig makes a little grunt and takes off then the bigger pig about +100lbs. runs up the same trail but never stops to give me a shot. Not bad for the middle of the morning and I still have 2 more hours to hunt before I need to head down the hill. I then take the trail back and stop on the drier side of the mountain and eat some lunch and enjoy the view of the back road to Hana. I decide to walk some of the game trails on the top of the ridge and it's thick so thick I have to crawl on all fours I come to some openings with pine trees surrounding the openings. I then see a ton of fresh scat and a few bones from a dead cow that the pigs have been eating. Now I'm going real slow and listening for any movement. The ridge line is thick all over and steep on one side with loose volcanic rock to loose your footing. I finally get to an open area and start to side hill around some of the thick stuff. I have fallen trees to get around that make all kinds of noise then I hear soft squeakers and the pigs are working their way to wards me and the wind is going left to right and away from the pigs. Then as I try to get a shooting lane open I see the pig coming right to me. It's a boar with big teeth and a little body about 90lbs. the pigs stops about 10 yards giving me a front chest shot I drew back and let the arrow fly now that the pig is looking right at me. I hit a small limb right in front of him and the arrow goes right underneath him missing him and he trots off into the thick stuff all the other pigs head in his direction and disappear into the jungle.
Overall a great hunt for a 4 hour hunt in Maui I didn't go back but had a great time, thanks for everyones pointers and next time I'll take you up on the bird hunt Rodney.

The game on the Islands is unbelievable; thats what public land should be like, I saw some nice Axis, goats, pigs and all kinds of game birds. The forest is the best it's thick and has lots of hazards like hidden caves, steep cliffs, lose dirt, and thick forest sometimes all at once, but I would not have it any other way. It's a great way to enjoy the thrill of rock climbing with a bow and a pack while crawling through the under growth and trying to stay on top of the hill with the smallest amount of blood loss. All of this just 1:15 hours from Kihei.:archer green:

I will hunt their next time and spend more time chasing pigs........their's just too many fun and relaxing things to do in 9 days.

Sounds fun!

...I even saw a goat back in there and locals say that there are none...

Glass eye, was that you that told me they seen a goat up there some years back? Somebody told me that and by the time I got to go for myself, I saw no aniamls at all, or at least none inside Ukumehame valley. After some researching I found that the area received an aerial culling some time between.

That's a shame you can't hunt bird by Ukumehame. I know there's loads of grey granklin out there.

I think I did mention it before. It was in '04 when I saw it. It was a black nanny on top of a dry waterfall in a gulch back inside behind the gun range. I could have shot her but she wasn't what I was looking for.
I've never seen anything but birds in Ukumehame but it's my favorite place to hike on Maui.

The goats were "illegally" released by some hunters to expand hunting opportunities. So our DLNR did an eradication with helicopters.

Isn't it wonderful how Hawaii helps the hunting community?
