Are there many rattlesnakes in the Modoc area? While I'm hunting for my goat in zone 3, my wife and young kids will be fishing, exploring, etc. Do they need to be extra careful in this area?
Thanks!
Brad
Yep - there sure are rattlesnakes. Quite a few at that. You do need to be careful and stay alert when you're walking around large rocks, through grass by streams and/or lakes, near the base of trees, and so on. Most of the snakes shade up in the afternoon, so be careful of a morning and night. Where exactly will you be camping? Some areas around here are worse than others when it comes to rattlesnakes. I might be able to help your wife and child with fishing and exploring areas also!! Glad to be able to help!!
Thanks for the info. I was afraid you were going to say that. At this point, it sounds like we will enjoy the Devil's Garden area much more than down in the Tables area. I don't like hunting around other people and with our Jeep we can explore the remote parts of this area and get away a bit. A little extra work will make the entire experience much more fun.We will be coming up in a few weeks to check things out and look for camping areas, fishing spots (my wife loves to fly fish), and of course, look for goats. After that, I'll let you know a little more specifically where we will be.
Thanks again for the info.
