BC: You know if the Sonoma hunt is going to limit how many people are let on at once? I might go second week...Read some on it and it sounds like all ya have to do is do the paperwork when ya get there....
How about stalking pig?.. is it same as deer with stopping and freezing until it looks away?. I don't know if a pig needs to be turned right to you to see ya or not. Is it true their vision is less then a deer? And their hearing and smell, how is that? Smell their best assset?.. any info appreciated.

Where's the big buck pics?still waiting..

Wello, I have heard from some folks that a pigs eye sight is as good as a deers. Many more people (including myself) say it isn't so. They do however see movement very well. With patience you can sneak up pretty close to them if you have the wind in your favor. The nose WILL bust you !!!! They also make a little more noise than deer while feeding so I have found you have a little more morgin for error in making noise. I walked up to within 15 yards with little cover from a large sow and 3 30 pounders in the spring. It can be done and in my opinion much easier than with deer.

Ah crap, this is horrible... I've been nominated to be El Presidente by two different JHO members in two different threads twice in 6 weeks... I can't think of a better way to ruin my hunting & fishing plans, so no thanks.

As for Lake Sonoma (an appropriate time-out from this "is it live or is it Memorex" big-buck thread), no, there is no limit to the number of hunters that can hunt there each day. Because it is archery only, and for the first couple months only open on select weekdays, the number of hunters hasn't been an issue. December through March the hunting will be open 7 days /week (except holidays and when other hunts are scheduled) and if issues arise about too many hunters, that will be taken into account next year (the 2005-2006 season). Lake Sonoma is a HUGE area, and if guys spread out, the area can easily absorb 100 bow hunters every day with very little crossover. The process is self sign-in and it can be done very early in the morning before light.

Pig hunting is similar to deer... spot-n-stalk or still hunting is the way to go at Lake Sonoma... early in the season will be easier hunting than later in the season, as the pigs will have been pressured less and water is still somewhat scarce. The trade off is that when the ground is dry, it's noisy, but I think a pig's best defense is it's nose (then eyes & ears). I think it's probably a bit easier to sneak up on a hog than on a deer.

The one thing to keep in mind is that big boars have thick shields built up over their shoulders from fighting, so a quartering away shot is your best bet for solid penetration. That, and if you happen to arrow the new world record wild pig, have some fun and post a teaser thread without pictures as it sure gets guys riled up!

So after all, the mystery friend that got the monster was known here on JHO as Birdawg. I bet he'd be carrying the big grin everywhere when he see this picture.

Nice photoshop work Rookies.

Well my buddy shot a 7 foot black bear in trinity county, says it took two of them all they had to load it on the quad. estimated weight at about 400 lbs. But I don't have any pics sorry to get you all worked up.

BFD on the deer. Obviously nobody hunts for notority, but if you bang something big no harm in taking a little dough or some free product IMO. Doesn't seem like TC has any reason to lie. Maybe he could fax a copy of the pic to back country, so he can confirm it.

Half a rack photo? Picture of a leg? Something.

I believe in the Mythical Monster Muley. DO YOU?

Well I wonder if 5,123 people who looked at this thread and 161 who bit is a record. Send that picture to Eastman's.

Sounds like a hoax, why would someone even mention something like this without being able to back it up?
What, did somebody tell you that Santa Claus isn't real and traumatize you? Did you even bother to read the thread? Plenty of folks gave plenty of rationale for not "backing it up" immediately. Contrary to the conspiracy theorists, the longer the wait, the more I'm inclined to believe it's really big. I guess when it comes to human behavior I'm a pessimist, but when it comes to big bucks I’m an optimist.

Yeah I read the thread. Now you tellin me Santa isn't real? Man this really sucks, a fake deer story and now a fake Santa statement too!!

It was a rhetorical question... rest assured, the dude's real, and he knows when you've been bad or good...

If I had to carry those antlers around I would want to be shot.

Is it me or don't they look too big.

Say you caught Bary Bonds home record ball. You are a big base ball fan. You go to the game because you enjoy it.

Everybody wants to buy it.

Would you sell it for $5.00? That is what the base ball is worth at the store.

If somebody wants to pay me big bucks fot something I enjoy doing that is alright for me.
