Yup. Fished some by-the-wayside streams in Elk and Clearfield counties of Pennsylvania over the long weekend.
Native brookies left and right.
On one stream I caught my first ever native Rainbow Trout. It was one of the highlights of the weekend. My brother caught one as well, appx 1/4 mile upstream of mine. His looked almost like a mini-steelhead (go figure!); with a humped midsection... the color on his was quite bland. The one I caught was regular trout shaped, and just brilliant in color. The typical pink band was nearly purple. It made the awesome colors of native brookies look trite... it was more like a painting than a fish.
I hope that I didn't damage it too much, as I hope that stream will provide more and more of those beautiful fish in the future... yes sir, I practised catch and release on it.
What a blessing!
