Yup. Fished some by-the-wayside streams in Elk and Clearfield counties of Pennsylvania over the long weekend.
Native brookies left and right.
On one stream I caught my first ever native Rainbow Trout. It was one of the highlights of the weekend. My brother caught one as well, appx 1/4 mile upstream of mine. His looked almost like a mini-steelhead (go figure!); with a humped midsection... the color on his was quite bland. The one I caught was regular trout shaped, and just brilliant in color. The typical pink band was nearly purple. It made the awesome colors of native brookies look trite... it was more like a painting than a fish.
I hope that I didn't damage it too much, as I hope that stream will provide more and more of those beautiful fish in the future... yes sir, I practised catch and release on it.
What a blessing!

Congrats on that first trout erschiessen. My first native trout was a golden trout here in the Sierra Mtns of California. I hiked way up a brush choked stream in the mountainside and found a place that looked good to let some flies drift down. Trout have some of the kewlest colors on them.

Thanks, Ducky and Jesse.
I've got gobs of Native Brookies before. They are so cool. But the rainbows were just a shock to catch. We were fishing for brookies for the most part, as that is the native species that is most prevelantly found here in PA (well, at least to my knowledge).

Now that my oldest son is old enough to fish at 4 1/2, we'll be able to get out more and more. Shoot, last night my boy outfished everyone, with 1 each Largemouth and Smallie. Out of the 5 of us that went (we only had 1/2 hour or so to get some fishing in before our old-ladies got ticked!) I was the only other person to catch anything... a stupid Sunny...

Going to the Delaware beach this weekend, I'm going to see how the surf fishing is (I know, wrong topic)... I'd like to catch a weak-fish, it's been almost 20 years since I've fished for them...

Thanks for such a great site, Jesse...
Regards,
Bruce
