Someone please help?! I'm not asking for locations or specifics but they're always welcome. Does anyone know if there's any pigs or turkeys I can shoot with a Kashtuk Long Bow (Google it) near Ojai, CA. On public land that is... :patiotic-wavin-flag

Good luck with that. I've seen a FEW along Santa Ana Rd but they're absolutely on pvt property on both sides of the road. They're regulars at Rancho Rio Vista. You might get permission if you ask but I doubt it since they're into peacocks and trash/junk piles. I've also heard them on private property on Sulpher Mtn road (but again, you WILL NOT get permission). You could maybe try an early morning trip around Matilija dam/pond and HOPE that on the southwest side of the lake there's a few.

Seriously, you need to be looking a bit (ok a lot) further north for public land birds. Cachuma at the least. Might call & ask the rangers about the possibilities around Lopez Lake (lower SLO county) too.

:wavin hello:Thanks for the info! I went up to lake Matilija to call for turkey and scout for Hogs but only was able to find hippies and some old guys balls sitting next to the hot springs. I brought my poles with me so I ended up at Casitas searching for some largies. I asked the girl at the toll booth at Casitas about turkey in the area, and she said she see's and hears them a lot... Comments? I've heard of a campground containing hogs further up the 33. Are you familiar with that. I

Unfortunately the way it goes when the Bambi crowd is in power is that we lose hunting rights. In this case, the watershed around Casitas is a no trespassing zone. No hiking, no camping, no picnicking, no hunting. Almost to the point of no looking or breathing the air either. But lots of deer, quail, and turkey.

There's a land conservancy upstream from Casitas (forget the name) you can get to from Rice Rd. You could hike or MAYBE mtn bike (check if allowed) across it to the back side in the canyons nearest to Casitas/Matilija and see what's there once you get OFF the conservancy land. Might get lucky. Might get hassled by the Bambi crowd too...

Hah, I need to get off my butt and get scouting again. Too much working, not enough playing. Trying to organize a trip over to a place in D11 sometime SOON. I heard something that sounded like turkey over there last year. And I've posted game cam pics of deer in the area. Now if someone can post up a map of Tejon where the piggies are found on the ranch there, I'd know if they were someplace nearby my scouting area too. I figure that posting Tejon doesn't give anyone's honey hole away so.....
