I was vacationing in Lake Tahoe and took a day to scout the 021-022 hunting areas north of Reno. I saw three different bands of speed goats, one nice buck with about 13-14 inch horns, but real thick and nice cutters. He's close to making the cut, but I was hoping for something taller. The other problem was he was on private land, but real close to public ground if he happens to wander out of the fenceline.
Interesting country for the portion I was able to look at. I was traveling down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. I topped a small rise and it went right into a small housing development. I have no idea what that town was called, but I never would have guessed there would be houses way the hell out there. Some very desolate country, but at least I have a head start. The Friday before the season I will be back to look at a couple different areas.
I got some great hints from my Dad's cousin who lives in the area and a local Game Warden who both praised the quality of the animals in the zones.
Less than two weeks left and I'll hopefully prove them right!
