Yep, gotta agree BPN, lead weights for fishing are also probably gonna be on the way out. I fish a lot, and I do lose lead sinkers. I mean lead itself is just on the way out as far as using it in ways that it can not be picked up and properly recycled, just like batteries of all types now. But there are plenty of brass weights available already, because they can be used with plastic beads to make a great rattling sound to attract fish. But just like Barnes bullets, they are WAY more expensive than lead. Back in the day, I used to use old sparkplugs (ceramic/steel) for sinkers in rivers, canals, and any other water where it was expected to get a lot of hang-ups and lose terminal tackle. May have to back to that I guess, but problem is I don't know what they make the new ones from and the new ones last almost forever (don't need to change them every few thousand miles), so even they are now a bit scarce. I'm gonna see if I can come up with a scheme to make fishing sinkers out of gravel, then after that I'll see if I can find a way to make bullets out of gravel too!! Condors don't eat gravel like dove do, do they!!

As of now, there is no ammo in any caliber that meets the state law effective 7-1-08. Sometime this "Spring" the state will certify bullets. Who know what will be certified??????

So it is probably best to wait until you get the okay from the state to sight-in your rifle with ammo that may not meet the state's guidelines.[/b]

True, but if you read the document you'd see a link showing a preliminary list of ammunition brands they believe will be legal in July 08. They dont say they WILL be, but they think they will be. Its a good faith attempt by the DFG (who are going to have to figure out how to enforce this crap). I did ask that specific question however. What about ammo not on the prelim list??? For instance, CorBon DPX isnt on the list. As new ammo becomes available in the future, how are they going to update the approved rounds? lots and lots of questions....

On that note, you're damn skippy that I'm already sighted in with Barnes bullets. Imagine the run on all copper ammo come June 29th '08....its already hard to find. F'ing expensive too

Get a grip you guys. Wardens are not going to seize your weapons, and they are not just going to accept a ballistic tip bullet as ok either. For loaded ammo, they can simply take your personal info/license data, and then have someone at the office use a pair of snips on the bullet -- not that big of a deal if they are inclined to do that. And for me, I would much rather have that scenario that have enforcement rules that could demand that we can only use ammo that is on a certified factory ammo list that is readily identifiable unique color or cartridge stamping -- that would really hurt handloaders. I think the DFG will be quite reasonable in how they enforce this new regulation, that was established with parameters that DFG recommended against to begin with. The DFG is not the enemy here. The bad guys are the legislature and the F&G Commission which took the regulations well beyond what the legislature intended.[/b]

I'm no expert, but everything I've seen has also pointed to F&G Commission being the cats paw of anti-hunting influence.

I had the same question. You're in the field, you have say, 5 rounds on your body or in your rifle, whatever. Do you have to carry an empty cardboard box that those copper rounds in your pocket came from? Does that even mean the rounds in your pocket/gun came from that box? Are they going to confiscate one of my $2.00+ rounds to pull the bullet and bolt-cut it on the spot? Am I going to get a couple bucks to buy another round? Enforcement is going to be a PITA...or my bet, very very simple. Meet a warden, they confiscate a round and cut it. Or maybe they tag it and take down your license number and have it sent to the lab...who knows

While we sit here and grumble amongst ourselves, the groundfire spreads.

ARIZONA: Arizona Game and Fish Commission to Discuss Lead Ammunition and Shooting Range Issues! On Friday, January 18, the Arizona Game and Fish Commission (AZGFC) will be holding a public meeting to discuss issues concerning gun owners and hunters. Of greatest interest are briefings on shooting range funding and development (Item #3) as well as general issues associated with lead from spent ammunition (Item #10). Since last year, when California passed its unjustified ban on lead ammunition for all hunting in condor range, the NRA has been keeping a close eye on the same issue in Arizona. Please take the time and attend the AZGFC meeting and make your voice heard on these important issues. The meeting will be held at the Arizona Game and Fish Department at 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ, beginning at 8:00 a.m. A copy of the agenda can be found on the Commission's website at http://www.azgfd.gov/inside_azgfd/meeting_agenda.shtml.

Hunters, it's time to come up with solutions instead of pointing at the problem, and let's get actively involved in changing things. Get to the meetings, produce your evidence and alternatives, and let the government know that hunters DO care and that we're tired of being trampled underfoot as insignificant.

Seize your firearm/ammo for later testing? Must show probable cause. JUST SAY NO!

As for condors, the mountain lions are exterminating them. My bud tracks them. He personally saw one kill a deer. Then a coyote showed up for free lunch, and the ML killed the coyote and stacked him on the deer. Then a condor showed up, and absolutely gorged itself stupid. They can't fly in this condition. The ML then bagged the condor. Trifecta.

I agree that DFG is not the enemy.[/b]

...but liberals and condors are...

Backcountry; I think you are only half right. Just because liberals say they like condors doesn't make condors our enemy.
