The rersults of the New Mexico oryx draw is posted on their web site.
I drew a tag !!

It's for the Stallion Range on 1/31-2/1 of 2004. Now comes the hard part---waiting the 11 months & then trying to convince my better half that we still need to go to South Africa on Safari to hunt wildebeest & zebra !

Bob- Congrats on drawing that tag. Oryx and Kudu are two of the African animals I would really like to have. Is your hunt on private prop. or public land? How many years did it take you to draw a tag, and how many animals are in your area (what are your chances of getting one)?

Maybe I should start applying!!

Rangerlab---The hunt is on the White Sands Missile Range. It's a 2 day hunt. There are quite a few Oryx there. This was my 1st year applying. You can check out the New Mexico Game & fish web site for more information. It's an expensive tag for a NR------$1500.

But what the heck, it's only money !!

I've talked to the game manger on the oryx hunt , he said the harvest rate over 80% if I remember correctly.

Fact is there are so many oryx that the state was having depredation / population reductions hunts there. Seems the oryx are getting on to ranches around the Missile Range & are causing problems.

Hey Bob,

Congrats on your tag! I have hunted predators on ranches bordering the northern end of White Sands near the Bosque del Apache. Do me favor....take a minute and piss on Ted Turner's ranch for me while you are there!!

Congrats,
It should be a great hunt. The success rate should go up next year because they are going to have two day hunts. Quality should go up to. You won't be pressured to kill the first decent oryx that you see.

Congratulations! You won't be disappointed. I had a really good time on mine. This was one of my most favorite hunts.

Best of luck
