I don't know how hard, but I think the application deadline has passed already.

Was not hard for me, 1st year applying pulled a tag. Not many non-residents apply with the $1,500 tag fee. A certain % go to non-res.

That fee is a bit steep, but how was the hunt? Were they plentifull or few & far between? Do you hunt on the military base?

My hunt was at Rhodes on WSMR. They have been running around 70% sucess rates. I heard they have around 4,000 beasts and want to thin it down to 1,200. Heck they should ship some out here to California and turn them loose around Barstow. Well maybe they should go to Ft. Irwin due to the poaching...

When I applied for the White Sands Gemsbuck depredation hunt and failed to get drawn I started receiving information from several outfitters and ranches in that area with tags but fees were from $3500 to over $5000 plus the tag.

For that much, I would make the trip to Africa if I had the cash and permission from the wife.

I drew a tag on the Stallion Range in 1/03. There are plenty of oryx on the White Sands. It's a fun hunt. My bull had 7" plus bases. Horns were 39". He scored 90 3/8 SCI. I drew on my 1st try. But I know of others who have not drawn in years. If your a NM res-----chances are pretty slim. Non-Res I think have a better chance of drawing. Subfan is correct that price tag keeps alot of guys from applying. It's only money-----I've never seen an armored trucks following a hearse !!!

I would not apply for the deprivation hunt-----From what I understand if you get drawn-----you get a phone saying be here tomorrow-----the oryx are on this ranch. I would only apply for the hunt on the White Sands Missile Range. Rhodes, Stallion, Small Range----IMO they are pretty much equal.
