So I did a buch of horse trading and ended up with enough cash to get a new rifle for my upcoming 'lope hunt. I have been looking for a lite rifle as I do backpack into the "deer factory" and found just what the doctor ordered.
While shopping at Bass pro in Manteca I couldn't pass up the deal on a Tika T-3 lite in 270 Winchester Short Magnum. I know, I know..."nobody has bullets in BF Egypt for that gun". I let a guy talk me out of a 300WSM 6 years ago based on the same arguement. Let us return to the most important lesson that many of you have shared though out JHO threads which is shot placement. It only takes one when you do it right.
If I only need one than all I have to do is put one in my pocket before I load the truck and I should have enough ammo for my tag. I can forget the whole rest of the box at home and still be able to hunt.
So here it is three weeks after I picked up the rifle and I got a chance to hit the range today. An older gentleman, his son and granson showed up just as I was getting ready to send the first round down range. I asked if they had earplugs and the older guy says "I don't need no damn earplugs". So I light the fire on the first one and I hear him say "OK I need damn ear plugs".:rotflmao:
I am TOTALLY happy with my choice though my shoulder took a beating. 12 rounds down range and it looks like I was hit with a hammer. The Tika is an awesome rifle and the 270 WSM should be great for any North American horned beast.
