Hey Ev,

With a couple of exceptions, I'd guarantee that nobody thinks that hunt is easy.

It's primo property with managed access and lots of animals, but not too many of those hogs come as easy as Mark's did.

Back to the topic at hand, though (HamSlam discussion is this thread here if you want to find out more....)

I think I should cut in here since I was there.

Sounds like a great easy hunt. Too bad they're not all that easy! If they were I think it would take out halfthe fun...going home skunked is like 99% of hunting!
……Scratching head thinking bad thoughts……hmmmm??? From the Armchair, It may sound "easy"

I’ll start off by saying Brent (Onetrack) is a Hunters Hunter… I’ve been hunting hard for 30 years and can say with great confidence that if you were to look up “Hard Core Hunter” in the dictionary, his picture would pop up. He is not only one of the finest hunters I’ve had the pleasure to hunt with, he’s also one of the toughest SOB’s I’ve ever known.

This hunt is not “Easy” by any stretch… We don’t road hunt, in fact, the area he hunted was a 2 mile hike up a mountain and a mile of traversing a damn near cliff.

There! … here's my story;
We finally had radio contact with Brent after he shook it off. I can’t describe the shock I felt when he finally replied and said…. Calmly…”Bad news guys, my gun exploded in my face”. It went from shock to a plan of action. I was a quarter mile from the truck when it happened so I ran down to meet Buckeye (another Hunters Hunter). We rushed to the base of the Mt. And told Onetrack we were coming up to get him… Brent told us that he didn’t want anyone to climb up and that he would assess the damage and try to stop the bleeding and come down solo. This guy is an animal!!! It took a while for him to walk down the Mt in the dark with one eye and a gun and gear. He asked for “Radio Silence” so he could concentrate on the task at hand but every time there were a few minutes of silence, we couldn’t help but ask his condition… I think this annoyed him a bit, but we thought he may pass out at any time… Buck Eye kept saying “I’m going up to get him” but we forced him to stay put until Onetrack asked for assistance…

Brent is the kind of man you want on your team. Tough as nails…A true Scottsman!!! As my Stoner neighbor kids would say, “Dude is straight up Hard Core Gangster”! (I’m pretty sure that means something good).

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

WOW! I really don't know how to respond to such a quote. The last thing I want to do is start a bashing on anybody but I can speak from experience here when I say that there is nothing easy about hunting this type of terian and taking a blown up gun in your face as easy. I need to go back and read where this all came from cause Onetrack has all of my respect as a bonefied hunter than anyone else I know. Next time speak from experience.

Thanks for the back up y'all. Can I use some of those lines on my headstone? ...in another 30 or 40 years that is.

I don't think EV really meant for his post to sound like it did. And, I can see where Tejon might sound like a slam dunk to the outsider. "I walked up the lung bustin' hill and there were five pigs, all over 300 lbs." Or, "a giant boar jumped up twenty feet from me." That could be takin' out of context and sound like a real easy hunt. We don't always mention the other twenty climbs we did that weekend, and on the weekend last year, or the dozen days humping around public land. It all adds up getting a break sooner or later.

I know Ev didn't mean it that way. I did get a chuckle, though...I've been hobbling around like a crippled old man.

Glad you're going be O.K. Onetrack! I heard you guys on the radio, but I must have turned it on after you said how you're gun blew up. I thought you had just put down a hog too far back in there and were talking about getting it in the morning.

That was definetly the hardest hunting I've ever done. I think I'll spend the alot of time hiking the local mountains and hills to get ready for next year!

My group knows exactly how tough that area was where Brent was hiking as we chased some monster hogs up and down and side to side on that mountainside last year. I can't imagine having to come down that steep climb after taking a haymaker from my rifle, losing an eye and doing it during darkness. Glad you're ok and hope you figure out exactly what caused the malfunction.

If you guys read the post by MJB that immediatly preceded the post by Ev, you would see that he talked about not even being able to finish his morning muffin before a hog stood up out of it's bed and he shot it with a 100 yard drag downhill to the truck. I believe that is the easy hunt being referred to.

The area where Brent took the shot to the eye is a hell of an area to hunt. I climbed the same mountain last year, took a 200 yard shot, and watched as the boar took off running. Down one ridge and up another to the spot where he was when I shot and I found the blood trail, however I lost it an hour later after crawling around on my hands and knees in the manzanita bushes. The entire south side is a hard hunt (just ask Suzmar1997, Gnn961, or Reddawg after dragging pigs uphill last year) unless you get one of the lucky finds next to the road while driving to your spot or you happen to jump one right next to you.

hehe...i think you guys misunderstood me....

The pig was in the cooler by 10:30 and drinking a beer by 11:00.

In my opinion this is an easy hunt....I dont know about you guys I'm used to 10 hour hikes without shooting nothing...Sorry if I created any misunderstandings...

I am very skittish when it comes to other people's reloads. If I did not reload it, I don't shoot it. Never know what if anything was double checked. It is just my own rule of safety. 'Nuff said.

Now ya tell me!

Hey, I'm glad you guys are havin' a laugh on me. I didn't expect Coues to let this one slide by without some smartass quotes. I haven't left the dang house in three days. I'm gettin' perty dang cranky. If you can think of any more jokes, let'r rip.

Just want to throw out a big THANKS to my huntin' buddy

"Joe Buckeye."

He followed me back up the mountain to check for blood Sunday, drove me around the ranch, cleaned up camp, drove my truck and trailer home, and made sure I was okay. He's a good hand, and a dang good shot.

I am not laughing, no sir. Just a personal opinion (on 3rd party reloads), if I may. Take care.

It takes a man with strong character to publicly display something like this and hold himself up for the fly by random potshot from the backseat boy.
You sir (One Track) are such an upstanding man it is obvious. I have no jokes to offer at this time however I wish I did as I'm being blasted by a mess of pseudo professionals over a simple bonehead comment I made on another site. lot of times I don't even want to read what other people habve to say on the subject but I just have to. I shall endeavour to persevere with as much dignity as I can muster and try to laugh with them at myself whenever possible. Or I might find out where a few of them live, track them down and put a couple pop knots on there heads.
My hats off to you.
