They dont always have dall on the ranch, you have to call them if you want a specific animal. They will let you know when they get a dall on the ranch.

Well I decided to just go and see what's what...take my bow and maybe a ranch rifle too (in case I see a yote or can't get close enough to use the sticks) on Monday morning before the temps increase twenty degrees. I'll be a comfortable 67 degrees...much nicer than the rest of the week in the mid 80s. Hey, us slow fat guys sweat enough without a lot of sun beating down on us. If anyone else wants to come along just say the word. Daughter is still undecided. This picture made me pull the trigger.

I cancelled, gotta call advising me they are down to only 20 razorbacks and no other pigs on the ranch. Not what I want. sigh (Perhaps this is an omen.)

Makes it more of a challenge with less animals. The Razorbacks are the toughest to hunt on their ranch.

Like I said before, CHALLENGE or HARD WORK is different for everybody. No, BHCR would not be a challenge for ME, but it WAS a challenge for my Dad when I took him there.

All I meant by my post that you quoted was that the "razorbacks" are more of a challenge than the farm pigs that just hang out in the open. The razorbacks are hiding in the brush on the steep hillsides just like wild pigs. If there is less animals on the ranch, they will not be as easy to locate. If there was one razorback on the ranch, you might have a hard time finding it.

If I do take a pig from there, it's gotta be something my wife will eat. The bear I brought home was anything but edible. Stunk up the house pretty good once I started cooking it. Ended dumping much of it afterwards, even my dogs declined. So I hafta make sure the next few "kills" are delicious. That way I get mom on the "pro-hunting" side and can justify more mounts later on. LOL

Your best bet then will be one of the farm pigs. You might even get a nice skull mount with tusks

And keep it under the 200 lb range. Ideally, 100-150 lb is the best table fare. Mmmm, I can smell the hams now....and the porkloin roasts....!

My wife prefers 1) axis deer 2) elk 3) wild hog. She's not a big venison eater, but those 3 sell my hunting trips everytime.

Last year, I was on 5 days into a 9 day elk hunt. Everything went wrong, if it wasn't raining it was freezing, or both. The tent leaked like a sieve, everthing I owned was soaking wet. I got the truck stuck and I was having trouble with the elk. I was exhausted.

I call the wife on day 5 and said I was thinking of packing up. She said "don't even thinking about coming home unless you've got my elk or the seasons ends". I got her elk.

In about 3-4 weeks, I'll have 15 weiner pigs ready for new homes or new freezers. Take 1, or all 15. They're $50 a pop. Don't let their cuteness fool you. These are ravenous little farm critters, capable of eating twice their body weight in one day. They've been known to take down a full size Rhode Island Red and devour it like a pack of wild piranhas. :lol bashing sign:
All foolin aside, these little critters are 3 weeks old and will weigh over 200lbs in in about 6 months from now. These Hamps are the same breed that Bruce just bagged over at BHCR.

Bruce: I don't know exactly what he envisioned re the rug. I have seen zebra skin, bear skin etc rugs with hair on them so I think that is what he planned. He was going to give the skin to a taxidermist (Frank Hook at Jack Ranch does taxidermy) to make into the "rug". I'll ask him when I see him next and let you know.

Ever seen a pigskin chair? Hairless. I question whether they have the hide for it...not at all like a deer or zebra or anything.

I'm pretty sure most folks have bear meat turned into sausage or something cuz it doesn't make a good steak. Next time you might try having whatever you shoot processed if it is too gamey tasting for you.

They'll be 150lb in 4 1/2 to 5 months....A pig grows exponentially. 2+2=4+4=8+8=16+16=32+32 and so on and so forth until they top out at around 400 to 600lbs in 2 to 3 years.
